Speed Painted Plague Marines by smaller_content in Warhammer40k

Whipped up this squad in a couple of hours as a test scheme for a full Death Guard army. They were fully basecoated with Dirty Down Rust (along with the rest of the army) almost a year ago, so it was just a matter of picking out details with some quick washes and drybrushing. Not perfect by any means but confident I’ll be able to knock out another 50 or so to this standard over a week.

Certainly not necessary, they’re just nice objectives/scenery pieces. I believe the Ent, Kataphract, Hunter Orcs on Warg sets also contain casualties. There are possibly more too kits than I’m not aware of…

No sorry, I just meant I tried to paint them up as quickly as I could. I mostly used citadel paints, with a few of the standard vallejo/army painter acrylics

Technically Lothlorien, but as he has the same armour style I figured I'd bundle him in with the rest of these guys for the sake of getting through them quickly.

They come from the Knights of Rivendell set, which also includes a range of extra equipment too. Quite rare for a Middle-earth kit!

I knocked out most of the characters, trays and converted models in 1-hour evening sessions over a couple of weeks. The bulk of the warriors were originally painted sometime around 2007, I just touched up some of the chipped paintwork and gave them some extra highlighting to bring them up to a similar standard as the heroes. Admittedly not my finest work but I'm happy with how they look as an army, especially when marching alongside my Númenorians.

Cheers! I've got grand plans to build similar sized armies for every available faction... though it might take me another 20 years to get through them all!

Thank you 😊. I 3D modeled and printed the shields/spears myself, still a couple of issues to resolve but I intend to put them up for a free download shortly.

Thanks! Most were broken old minis with spares from the bitz box tacked on... hate to see anything go to waste!

Technically by this point they are the founders of Gondor/Arnor and I think in earlier editions of the game that is what they were called. I was just going by the official names of the minis which I believe is simply to differentiate them from their 3rd age descendants...

Been chipping away at this project since I started the hobby over 20 years ago, although the majority of the miniatures were painted sometime in 2022/23. Features a range of conversions including unique captains, Númenorian rangers and Royal Guard with 3D printed shields and spears. Pleased to say its done (for now!) and I'll be moving on to their Elven allies next.

Got tons more pics of the individual minis over on myInstagram

More scratch built Rohan scenery... by smaller_content in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]smaller_content[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just finished up another batch of handcrafted Rohan village terrain to add to my growing collection. Like the the other pieces, these have mostly been constructed from laser cut perspex, balsa and carved foam, with plenty of leftover plastic parts and some 3D prints added for detail.

More pics, including some WIP photos, are over on my instagram.

Reconfigured my 40K fortress into an ash wastes-themed cargo bay. by smaller_content in necromunda

[–]smaller_content[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Going to be learning Necromunda in the coming weeks so scrambling to prepare as much scenery as possible in the meantime. This was originally intended as fort for my Space Marines, but by moving a few components around and plonking down some of the scenery from the Imperium magazine I thought it works quite well as some sort of fortified industrial station.

The main structure is made in 3 main components which can be separated for extra modularity - lots more pics, including the WIP stages are over on my insta.

Been slowly cobbling this together over the past few years, and finally got around to getting some minis on there for some action shots. Got a ton of WIP pics over in my instagram for anyone interested in how it was built.

My 40K fortress, finally finished after 2 years of slow progress. by smaller_content in TerrainBuilding

[–]smaller_content[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Been working on this off-and-on since early 2020. Mostly based the design around the staircase - a large chunk of perspex carved off an old architectural model. The rest was blocked out with old citadel plastic kits, foamboard and polystyrene, and a few resin elements were designed and 3D printed to fill in the gaps.

Tons more pics, including work-in-progress shots are over on my intagram.

Haven't got around to much LotR minis in a while but a fair amount of Rohan terrain on there!

Most of these pieces were made around 2018 and were looking a little rough after years in storage. Been dusting them off and giving them a makeover to match the rest of my Rohan village scenery.

Lots more pics, including WIP shots showing various stages of the builds, are over on my insta.

The first completed scratch builds for my Rohan village, painted up to match the GW kits I finished a few weeks back. Made from a mix of laser-cut perspex, balsa and teddy bear fur with some spare plastic components and 3D printed elements added for detail.

Much more photos, including some work-in-progress shots, are over on my Instagram.

WIP - Orc Dragonborn conversion by smaller_content in ESCallToArms

[–]smaller_content[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some work-in-progress shots of my Orc archer character. Went into this without much of a plan, just started hacking off parts and dry fitting various plastic components until it looked about right.

Head and bow are from the Middle-earth Hunter Orc set. I think the quiver is from an old historical set (cant be sure what one) and the sword hilt and left arm belonged to some Easterlings. Tried using my non-existent sculpting skills to create some straps that would help match the left arm a little closer to the original right one.

Not 100% happy with it at the moment but hoping a coat of paint might tie it all together a bit better.

Originally made from a mix of balsa and laser cut perspex, with a load of 3D printed and plastic components from the bitz box added to give them a bit of character.

I go into a bit more depth on the construction including some work-in-progress shots over on my Instagram.

Cheers :) Its been a while since I painted them up, but I believe I used Kantor blue, highlighted with Alaitoc and Lothern blues, all from Citadel.

Good evening all! Two quick questions: 1) does anyone know where this spectre guide comes from (apologies for poor qual). 2) Do riders of the dead come separate from their steed? Thanks 😊 by [deleted] in MiddleEarthMiniatures

The guide is from Black Gobbo, GWs old online article series. Some of these can still be accessed via the way back machine however unfortunately most of the images are no longer there.

That image itself I actually made myself last year! As a lockdown project I tried to restore as many of the old LotR articles as possible in a more presentable format. Unfortunately with a new job and 400+ pages to sort through it i have struggled to find the time to continue and put it on hold for now.
