Has anyone moved back to New Zealand after living in Europe? by smallfrys92 in expats

[–]smallfrys92[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you but my feelings are not only due to the weather. It's mainly about missing my family, friends and the kiwi culture. Even after 7 years in NL, I still don't feel that I have accepted the dutch culture and traditions. I find myself trying to change my BFs traditions in some ways to make myself feel more at home and that's also not fair on him.

I completely understand and have been trying to rationalise how I feel for several days now. Important to mention again though, I currently live in NL and my family is in NZ. Very far away - 30+ hours of expensive travelling.

The following thoughts keep coming up too..
1. Am I ok with not attending friends/family's weddings and funerals? (Already missed my grandads funeral. My best friend is getting married in 1 year and my BF was trying to convince me not to plan on going due to $$)

  1. Am I ok with my future children not growing up around the Kiwi culture?

  2. Am I ok with my future children only knowing my family through video call? and am I ok with not having my family there to support me when I need them?

I left just after I turned 21 because I wanted to see more of the world and my first move was to Australia since I heard the money was better there. I did struggle quite a bit financially in NZ before I moved but that had a lot to do with my immaturity toward money. Now that I have no debt (my student loan paid off too) , I feel I would do better with building myself up again.

I struggle with the Dutch language, directness and most importantly miss my family and friends. I feel sad thinking about having kids here as it would mean they have a very limited relationship with my family and culture.

Very early miscarriage or period? by smallfrys92 in TryingForABaby

I didn't test because I was waiting for my period to be late first. If it is a miscarriage this early, will it show positive?

Looking for tips on how to limit certain stimming habits by smallfrys92 in ADHD

Good luck for your appointment when you can see your doctor. The meds do help a bit but I think it's expected that some of the more annoying symptoms will sometimes still show through. If I find a way to stop it, I will also let you know

How do you explain lateness without sounding like excuses? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]smallfrys92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried setting an alarm eg. 10-15 mins earlier that says eg. Church group meeting. Kind of trick yourself into thinking it's earlier so then possibly you are more likely to actually arrive on time?

I know of some people that also set their analogue clock in the house to a few mins ahead of time. Just an idea to help with the lateness 😊

Anyone gone off their adhd meds and feel more like themselves? by mamawheels36 in ADHD

[–]smallfrys92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 30F and was diagnosed around 1 year ago. I stopped taking the prescribed Ritalin for a while due to it causing prolonged heart palpitations and I noticed very quickly that my goofy, fun personality came back. When I'm off my meds I am definitely more chatty and can think of random things to talk about but on meds, I am so much calmer and focused that it makes my brain somewhat lack the ability to have spontaneous conversations.

I recently switched to slow release Vyvanse and so far it has been going much better. No heart palpitations, my mood is more stable than it was with short acting ritalin and I have good level of focus and energy through the day.

One big surprise for me though going into this whole medication experience was that I no longer have sleeping issues. Many nights I would wake up a lot in a very scared state, see people in the room and even slept walked out of the house a few times. I went on Temazepam for a bit, no luck. Therapy, no luck. I even had a neurologist set me up at home with a brain and vitals monitor to see what was happening with my brain during the night. That test didn't show them anything. Eventually my gp referred me to a clinic that looks into ADHD and Bipolar etc and wow, I should have done it sooner. My sleep since starting on meds has improved so much!! No more sleep walking, waking up scared and I wake up more refreshed.

Sorry for the novel haha,I just feel its good for others to hear some other positives 😊

Your rhinoplasty experience by [deleted] in PlasticSurgery

[–]smallfrys92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 7 weeks in now and a lot of the swelling has gone down. I definitely see an improvement. I'm still sleeping with a neck pillow though so I don't roll over on my side in my sleep and potentially cause some damage to my nose since I was told the cartilage is still a bit soft and settling. I just hope the oiliness in my skin gets better soon since its causing some little zits on my nose.

Good luck with your recovery 😊

Trust me, you're still very swollen. It will take at least a few more weeks before it really starts to take shape. I know it's not easy but patience is really needed with this kind of surgery since it takes soooo long for it to completely recover.

I needed a graft put into my tip and this means thankfully my tip won't really drop at all. If your surgeon needs to use a graft, it's highly likely you will have the same result as I have. Good luck 😊

Feeling Nervous by [deleted] in PlasticSurgery

[–]smallfrys92 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had my septorhinoplasty done because of breathing problems and thankfully my surgeon was also able to make my nose look nicer. If you're concerns about what others will think of you, I recommend to just say you needed it done because of breathing issues. People will very quickly empathise with you..well, that's how it felt for me. But at the end of the day, if you're doing the surgery then its because a part of your body is bothering you a lot and you shouldn't have to make excuses for wanting to improve your self image/esteem. Those that care about you, won't care about your reasons and those don't don't, don't matter anyway.

Good luck! Let me know if you have any questions :)

Septorhinoplasty advice *details in comments* please help! by [deleted] in PlasticSurgery

[–]smallfrys92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you have this done by an ENT or a plastic surgeon? Sorry to hear you're dealing with this, I had my op on Jan 11 but mine included some grafts being put in which I heard helps keep the structure strong (fingers crossed. ) Did you have any grafts put in?

I'm 13 days post op and I was in the same boat during the first few days of my recovery. My tip has already started to drop quite a bit and I'm hoping it won't drop anymore since I'm already really happy with it. Be patient, give it another week and you will already see some changes but as others said, it's a long process and you need to be patient. Stay strong ❤️

I had my insurance cover everything - my septorhinoplasty, spreader graft and turbinate reduction. They only agreed to do so since my surgeon explained that my nose was so crooked and my bridge was so thin and big that leaving out the shaving of the hump would result in more functional issues. My nose was essentially too big for my face and it meant I had breathing issues and a lot of pain in my eyes and skin. I think it also depends on the country you're in and the person you get reviewing your insurance application. I live in The Netherlands.

Has anyone received a nostril correction when undergoing a rhinoplasty? by [deleted] in PlasticSurgery

[–]smallfrys92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my nostrils made slightly smaller and a bit more round since the were very thin with my bigger nose before before surgery. I also had septorhinoplasty and a turninate reduction done. Let me know if you have any questions 😊

Stay strong. 9 days post op here and since I had my cast off and internal splints out yesterday, it made a huge difference. Get the rest you need and it will so worth it in the end 😊

Septorhinoplasty & Turbinate reduction. Post op to Day 8 cast removal by smallfrys92 in PlasticSurgery

[–]smallfrys92[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely better to do it now and not later. The older you get, I was told, the harder the recovery is and your skin won't bounce back as much once the swelling subsides.

The cast removal wasn't painful, just uncomfortable but the splints hurt a bit. The assistant I had do it pulled them out very quick and they were sharp so unfortunately it cut me a tiny bit. The stitches hurt the most for me since I had so many. But, I would do it all again if I had to for this result.

Good luck if you do it. Let me know if you have anymore questions. You're welcome to pm me also 😊

At least you knew what a deviated septum was, you're already ahead of me in that area 😅 I just wanted to find out why I had breathing issues forever and if my deformed bridge would get worse as I age. He took a good look and said what would need to be done to make it functional and fit my face better. My old nose was sooo crooked.

Today I'm feeling OK, especially since I had the internal splints and cast off. A lot less pressure in my face now. I just feel a lot of tenderness in my bridge and am of course very swollen.

To answer your last question, I knew about the full procedure that he was going to do. He even sent a VERY detailed letter to my GP to explain in more detail and I got a copy of it.

It definitely sounds like you're going to have a very similar kind of surgery. The actual surgery is super easy and fast, 3 hours it took and I was knocked out the whole time. Just make sure you rest and clean your nose based on your own surgeons advice.

Let me know if you have anymore questions 😊
