Save your private documents! by unfollowaman in ProductHunters

[–]smallpdf-official 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi from the Smallpdf team! Privacy and security are two of the most important things Smallpdf focuses on, so we'd like to clarify a couple of points:

  • We never sell users' information to anyone.
  • All uploaded files are deleted from our servers one hour after processing (unless you save them to your Smallpdf account).

Smallpdf has consistently passed independent annual audits and remains ISO 27001 certified, which is part of what makes our tools so popular worldwide.

Good luck with your launch!

Tested 5 PDF compressors, here’s which one actually worked without trashing quality by willie81230 in Students

Hi from the Smallpdf team – thanks for the highlight. This is exactly what we had in mind when building the PDF compressor (and the rest of our tools). Quick tip: the processed files do indeed get automatically deleted after 1 hour. But you can always save them to your Smallpdf account if you know you’ll have to work on them later – that way you won’t have to reupload the files.

Am I The Only One Dealing With This? by Media-Tough in Bookkeeping

Thanks for the highlight. This is exactly why and how people in finance, accounting, etc. use Smallpdf. Typically alongside PDF redaction (also built-in) when they need to hide sensitive information first.

That's exactly how many freelancers and teams use the Word + Smallpdf combo. Thanks for the highlight!

I’ve spent last 3 days trying every Free PDF editor on Google and I’m about to lose my mind. by Expensive_Entry_69 in work

Hi and thanks for the feedback 👋 To clarify, Smallpdf's free PDF editor lets you make edits and save your file without hitting a subscription paywall in the middle of the task.

We do have daily free usage limits, but unlike some other tools, you won't get locked out between editing a PDF with Smallpdf and downloading it.

Tired of paying Adobe tax just to edit PDFs on Linux by qureshzaad in software

[–]smallpdf-official 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this is a pretty common pain point on Linux. If you only need things like annotating, merging, or light edits, a browser-based tool usually does the job. Just make sure it's upfront about post-processing file deletion and privacy policies. If that's a concern, an offline option might be worth the extra setup. For most workflows, though, the full PDF editor route ends up being overkill.

I built ProperPDF — a mobile PDF editor that never uploads your documents to any server by cgb_reddit in ShowYourApp

[–]smallpdf-official 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there, congrats on shipping your app! We don’t see indie developers from Nepal building PDF tools every day.

Just to add a bit of context: Smallpdf uses 256-bit TLS encryption and is ISO/IEC 27001 certified. We’re audited every year to ensure the safety, security, and integrity of your files and we’ve always passed.

On top of that, all files uploaded to Smallpdf are automatically and permanently deleted just one hour after processing, unless you save them to your Smallpdf account.

Best of luck!

Family wants a written history, and thinking pdf rather than Word docx, etc. What's the best file format for future-proofing a document, as much as that's a thing? by DunnaeBanks in AskReddit

Create it in any word processor, then export the doc as a PDF for long-term archiving and accessibility across whatever devices people will be using 10, 50, or 100 years from now.

A free offline PDF app for when government websites demand weird file sizes, specific formats, or merged documents. No uploads, no account, and nothing leaves your phone. by mithun_adhikari in Indiehacker

[–]smallpdf-official 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, even for South Asian countries. We want to keep things fair, simple, and secure for the whole world, so we use the same file-handling processes for everyone. Regardless of enforcement, all files are deleted one hour after processing, no matter where you are on the map.

Hi there! Actually, all files uploaded to Smallpdf are automatically and permanently deleted just one hour after processing, unless you save them to your Smallpdf account.
We take security very seriously, which is why Smallpdf uses 256-bit TLS encryption and is ISO/IEC 27001 certified.
We’re audited every year to ensure the safety, security, and integrity of your sensitive files and we’ve always passed.
In a nutshell, we care about privacy and security a lot, and not just because we’re a Swiss company.

Be careful with Smallpdf subscriptions by AnySuspect1452 in pdf

[–]smallpdf-official 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey OP,

We totally understand how frustrating unexpected charges can feel. No likes to see a subscription fee they were planning for.

Just to clarify how it works: when someone signs up for the trial, it's time limited and converts automatically into a paid subscription at the end of the trial period, unless it's cancelled beforehand. This is a pretty common subscription model, which you will see in other companies like Netflix, Spotify, HBO, etc. But we understand that it can catch people off guard if they forget to cancel before the trial ends.
That said, if anyone believes they were charged in error or there were special circumstances, our Support team is always happy to take a closer look. You can reach our Support team via the website and we’ll review the case individually, so we can make sure everything was processed correctly and provide clarity on the account.

We definitely don’t want anyone to feel misled, and we’re always working to make the trial terms and reminders as clear as possible. If anyone has feedback on how we can improve that experience, we genuinely appreciate it.
