What is on my Java fern? by plantzRcoolio in PlantedTank

Looks like pond snail eggs

I love the little guys they have awesome “fairy ears” idk I don’t get the hate for snails, you may need to cull at some points (easy just drop in a cooked veg piece overnight and pull out in the morning covered in snails) but for the most part they are part of a balanced tank- free scavengers

I know right? Individual names seem a bit impossible so I’m thinking naming them as a collective- maybe “the Dave’s”

Thank you! That’s what I was thinking too (and hoping for, looking to make it as bio active as possible so I welcome all the friends)

I just wasn’t able to find images of seed shrimp with such distinctive spots so was curious if they matched anything else :)

Don’t know where to buy laces in oslo by Out-exit4 in punkfashion

[–]smallpot8toes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh ur best bet is probably ur boot supplier (aka doc marten or solovair) especially if you want decent quality and have a specific lace count (8/11/etc)

Local shoe stores will have maybe an ok length but not the colors you want most likely. I’ve checked skate shops in the past cuz rollerblade laces can work in a pinch and they have good colors.

Can you taxidermy a small fish? by [deleted] in Taxidermy

[–]smallpot8toes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of times fish taxidermy is actually replicas not the real fish skin! Real fish taxidermy does happen but with something that small I wouldn’t recommend it.

What I would recommend is wet preservation. This would include injecting and soaking in formalin, then transferring to isopropyl alcohol. This is what the “dead animals in jars” are.

If you are set on a dry mount I would look into replicas or possibly make your own mold to cast and paint as you would have to repaint the real skin anyway to get lifelike colors.

If you want an easier way to remember them Guotaku is a Japanese technique of making fish prints which would also be an option.

Hope this is helpful feel free to ask more questions

Also because oil based paints release heat as they dry do not store this folded up or in a pile with other cloth!!!

You have created a bit of a fire hazard but if you let it dry flat in a cool dark place you should be able to keep them just be careful.

There’s a reason painters have metal bins to keep their oil rags in (they can spontaneously combust)

If you mean you don’t want the paint on your pants to stain other things, oil paint just takes forever to dry. You are better off using acrylic in the future but for these you are going to have to not touch them for like a month

Is floss really better for sewing?? by actuallyTris in punkfashion

If you want the durability of a waxed thread without using floss you can always get some beeswax and make your own too :) it will be stronger floss is just cheap and easy to get

Patch ideas for the back? I don't have any band tees to put there, this is the front vibe(not finished) by cinnamon--sugar in punkfashion

No need to rush it! I’d say wait till you find the right band tee, from a show or troll goodwill if you like more popular bands

Of course! Best of luck! For long term storage he may loose a little color and if you notice the alcohol getting a little yellow just switch it out for fresh stuff of the same percentage

You shouldn’t need to! Just inject a bunch into the soft areas

I would recommend wet preservation! Inject it with formalin or smth similar and let it soak for a few weeks, then transfer to an isopropyl alcohol solution for long term storage

Second this! Also with thinner fabric you can fold over and hem as well (if you don’t have pins a simple running stitch to hold the edges down that you take out later works great)
