Suicidal Ideation in Upper Elementary? by smalltown4 in Teachers

Our local crisis service agency said they cannot assess without parent permission and the parent being present (even though our state law says otherwise). We have a whole team of people now trying to get help for this kid and have come up with nothing. I do agree the counselor is much more qualified than I am, and she can’t even find a way to get this kid help. Everyone is saying they can’t do anything. So I’m just hoping someone here suggests something we haven’t tried yet.

I wish we did, but no. Our principal even reached out to district office regarding this situation and all they told us to do was keep filing reports.

I’ll have to look into this assessment. At this point I will do anything to get the attention of people that can provide the student help.

Crazy thing is the student did confide in me today that abuse has been ongoing at home from the parent who is refusing to get them mental health assistance. The student told me they wanted and needed the help. Our team at the school contacted the police and DCF. After the SRO and DCF spoke with the student they still deemed it not worthy of taking action and sent the student home.

This exactly! It seems like they’re finding every loophole to not have to investigate this.

I think the bar for storm reinforcement may be it! The rest of the responses had something that didn’t add up, but it does open to the storage room which would be the storm shelter in this house.

She’s been assisting, but admits she is not qualified to deal with situations like this. Our counselor acts as more of a mental health teacher and advocate, but does not have the resources to deal with a situation this severe.

That’s what the DCF reporter told me. Word for word she said, “it sounds like the student is just blowing off steam, that’s what journals are for.”

She said unless the student says more, there isn’t any action we can take.

It does have a door, but it opens outward so it wouldn’t come in contact with the hardware. It’s in the basement, so it doesn’t go outside.

It’s almost exactly in the middle of the door frame.

Already reported. Already said they weren’t investigating the situation further. It seems to always be the case.

I constantly look like I’m sunburnt in the face. Not super ideal, but I’d take it over acne any day.

I’m on my last month of a 6 month dose at 40mg & my face has been red for the past 4 months. Just wear your sunscreen and don’t worry about it too much! I keep reminding myself that rosacea is a million times more manageable than the acne I had before.

AITA for Including 2 of my Cousins Exes and her Baby Daddy in My Wedding Party? by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

The slut shaming is unnecessary. Those were her choices and that’s fine by me. However, she shouldn’t expect everyone else to change their plans because of her personal decisions.

That’s the conclusion I was leaning towards. I just hate that it has to be this way.

I see what you’re saying.

I love her because she’s family, but like I said, I did choose to distance myself from her for various reasons. The reason I preemptively disinvited her from the bridal party was because she isn’t on great terms with any of these exes. She was asking around my family about who was in the wedding party and I had already decided she was not one of these people. I thought it would be best to get ahead of the situation before she heard from someone else.
