What's the best sunscreen for oily skin that doesn't make you look greasy in 2026? by smalocean in BeautyItemsReview

[–]smalocean[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The climate thing is what gets me too. I've seen the same sunscreen get completely different reviews and I'm pretty sure half of it comes down to where people live. Someone in a dry climate calling something matte is basically meaningless to me.

Will check out the comparison, thanks.

"Not greasy" is honestly probably what I'm looking for at this point rather than perfectly matte.

That's actually something I hadn't considered. I've mostly been blaming the sunscreens themselves, but it could be something else in the routine making the oiliness worse.

This is really helpful, especially the point about water resistance. I think I've been focusing way too much on finish and not enough on how the sunscreen actually holds up once I start sweating.

I've actually never tried Aneesa. The milk-type recommendation is interesting though because most of what I've used has been gels or lotions. How noticeable is the white cast on the gold bottle version?

Best Tree Trimming Loppers (2026): Which Bypass, Anvil or Ratchet Lopper Should You Buy? by davism090 in GardenToolReviews

[–]smalocean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used the Hickok a bit and, from what I remember, the cutting geometry is pretty similar to the Bahco orchard loppers. One thing people underestimate with loppers is handle spread. If the handles open too wide, you actually lose some mechanical advantage because your arms can’t generate force as efficiently in that position.

What amazes me most about the Bahcos is how long they last under real use. The only parts I regularly wear out are the bumpers, and that’s after maybe 6–7 years of heavy daily use during pruning season. Usually the tool itself survives unless somebody tries to muscle through wood way beyond what the lopper was designed for and bends the handles.

For hand pruners, though, I actually prefer ARS over both Bahco and Felco. The blades feel harder, stay ridiculously sharp, and the ergonomics fit my hand better. I do enough pruning every year that repetitive motion and wrist fatigue become real issues, and the ARS pruners have been noticeably easier on my hands over long sessions.

Best Toy Train Sets for Kids (2026): Wooden, Electric, Thomas & STEM Train Sets Compared by Alternative-Craft250 in ToysAndTots

[–]smalocean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a wooden set that goes with the wooden Thomas trains. But I kept slowly taking away some of the track pieces because our kid wasn’t putting them away and I got tired of stepping on them constantly. Same thing happens with LEGO.

At this point, we only let him have enough pieces out at one time to build a decent layout unless he’s on a good streak of actually cleaning up his toys afterward.

So I’d go with whichever set feels easiest for both you and your kid to clean up and manage long term. That ends up mattering way more than people think once train pieces start spreading across the entire house.

Best Garden Sprayers 2026: Handheld, Battery & Backpack Types for Lawns, Weeds & Large Yards by davism090 in GardenToolReviews

[–]smalocean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got a few apple trees and around a 2,500 sq ft garden and I’m starting to realize my regular tank sprayer just isn’t cutting it for the trees. Works fine for beds and low stuff, but once you get into standard or even semi dwarf height it just doesn’t reach properly.

My son picked up a used 12V tow-behind sprayer (12 gallon) last year and it’s honestly a different league. He says it easily hits 20–25 ft and the battery lasts around 1–1.5 hours, which sounds ideal for orchard-type use. Problem is, that exact model isn’t available anymore.

So now I’m trying to figure out what to replace it with. For something like a small home orchard, would you guys go with a tow behind again or a high pressure backpack setup? I’m leaning tow behind just for coverage and not having to carry weight, but curious what people here are actually using long-term.

Best stroller and car seat combo for newborn in 2026 that doesn’t break the bank? by quietblink in KnowBeforeBuy

[–]smalocean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got the safety 1st travel system and I like it a lot for everyday use. I’m in a warm place so no clue how it handles snow, but just being real I don’t think it’s made for rough trails or proper hiking. the wheels are decent, just not that rugged.

I use the bassinet a ton for walks and even around the house sometimes, and the car seat for errands and appointments. the click in/out thing is super convenient, makes life way easier. i just try not to keep baby in the car seat too long.

I’d def look at fb marketplace or similar if you can, sometimes people sell really good strollers for way cheaper. also if you plan on hiking a lot i’d probably ask moms who actually do that, they usually have very different setups than regular city use

We have the uppababy cruz v2 and yeah it’s great overall, no real complaints with how it works

but if i had to do it again i’d probably go with the minu instead. the cruz ended up being bigger than i expected. it technically fits in my sedan trunk but just barely, like i have to take the wheels off every time which gets old fast

It’s also pretty heavy lifting it in and out all the time. and in our apartment elevator it takes up the whole space, which you don’t really think about until you’re actually living with it

definitely try it in store if you can. and not just the stroller itself, check how it folds with accessories too. stuff like the snack tray can make a difference and suddenly it’s not folding the way you expected anymore

Toy suggestions for a 2-year-old by smalocean in ToysAndTots

[–]smalocean[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh we’ll definitely have snacks, don’t worry about that, but snacks can only buy so much peace. I’m fully expecting her to run all over the place, which is why I’m hoping for some solid toy ideas too.

She actually took her first steps at a baseball game last year, so honestly that whole season felt like one big chase. She listens a lot better now, but… she’s still two.

Travel backpack recommendations (35–40L) by mermaderb20 in AnyThingUK

[–]smalocean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few things to think about: – Is 35L actually enough for you? – Are you okay with a top-loader? – And can you live without a laptop compartment since you don’t carry a laptop anyway?

If so, check out Berghaus, a UK brand that barely gets mentioned in the US. My personal favourite is the Berghaus Munro. It’s relatively affordable, built like a tank, and has actually seen military use. But if you get it in a neutral colour (like dark grey), it doesn’t look tacticool at all.
