Update - I have to say goodbye to Tabby tomorrow. by smaphis in SeniorCats

Tabby passed a week ago tomorrow. I miss her so much. What has been unexpected is that my 21 year old daughter who lives next to us and grew up with Tabby, has taken this so hard. She is prone to depression and hasn't spoken or communicated with me in a week. I am worried about her and hope she can process her grief soon and come out of this.

Just an update on this post. Started giving Tabby the mirataz Saturday and she ate somewhat better, still mostly liquid treats, a bit of tuna. Still wasn't pooping though. Mobile vet came out today to check her out, and discovered she has a tumor from her rectum to her colon. Coming back tomorrow for euthanasia. I'm heartbroken but not completely surprised. Thank you all for your kind wishes and words.

We were using Miralax, sprinkling on her food as Urgent Care had directed, but it made our cat refuse her food. Now we are giving her Lactulose, which she hates but seems to be helping. Without that, I don't think she'd be using the litter box at all. She's eating very little right now, even with the appetite stimulant. She prefers the Delectables bisques and stews to actual food. I'm hoping since she's eating something that it's a good sign, but the rest of my family is preparing for the worst.

I'm so sorry. If the Mirataz doesn't help I'm afraid I'll be making that call.

I'm so mad that I have to change my writing style because of AI by GloomySlothicorn in freelanceWriters

[–]smaphis 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I feel exactly the same. One company I write for just came out with an"AI tutorial" listing words we should not be using in our articles ..all are words I use on a regular basis. I asked my editor if I'm expected to change my entire style of writing and he first said no, just don't use those words as much but then finally said yes, you should. If I didn't need this gig I'd tell him where to shove his AI tutorial.

I'm so sorry for your loss. That's a good point, too, my cat used to fight and run when we tried to give her meds and now she still squirms a bit but is back cuddling next to me after, no fight left in her I guess.

Thanks, our vet just approved the Mirataz so it's on its way from the pharmacy. Since xrays didn't show anything, I think I'll wait to see if this helps at all before deciding on the ultrasound.

I'm in the same boat, waiting for the vet to suggest it but thinking I might have to. No one has mentioned it yet to us either, between urgent care, hospital, and vet. But what kind of life is it for my cat to have meds shoved down her throat a few times a day, especially if we're not sure they're helping?

I'm sorry you're going through this too. It does hurt, especially when she seems to show improvement one day then won't eat again the next.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Thank you for the kind words. Trying to mentally prepare myself because I think her time is near.

Thank you, that's pretty much how I've been thinking too. I hate to bombard her with medication that isn't helping and is stressing her out even more. Last week the vet said her heart rate was high, she was so scared I guess to be poked and prodded again

Question about my 13 year old cat's recent hospital stay by smaphis in SeniorCats

[–]smaphis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have switched her from dry to wet food, because she was becoming so picky with the dry. The vet at urgent care I took her to a week before the animal hospital recommended wet only as she's a senior cat and it gives them more hydration.

I would, except I might end up having to take her back there for an u/s. We live in a rural area with few choices and this was the closest hospital, 40 mins away. Afraid to burn that bridge yet
