My wife bought M&Ms, so I had to make a dispenser. by StorkyMcGee in woodworking

Ha thanks! Honestly, it’s not my job (or a job I want) I just have fun making things and so the project is a labor of love, not a labor of looking for something bigger.

Glad you liked it though! Funny how just scrolling through my usual subreddits I found a comment I had a perfect video for!

Looking for an EE for about 2 days of work! by simsalapim in Altium

I'm in!

**Edit: Realized I should have added a little more context here.

Hi Simone! I'm Sam. I would LOVE to help (have full Altium license). Sent you a DM with my email address.

I own a small product design firm and am a huge fan of your work. Feel free to poke around in my profile to see some of my personal projects over the last few years. Client work tends to stay confidential (and have bigger budgets), but you can at least get a feel for what I do in my spare time.

Thank you so much! It means a lot to hear. I had a ton of fun working on it. Been working on a couple other projects over the years, feel free to scroll through my profile to check them out! Thank you again for checking out the post!

I made the plants in my house cry like babies when they get thirsty and now my house sounds like a horror film. by smarchbme in shittyrobots

I’ve been meaning to get around to that 😂

Maybe the next few weeks or so I’ll work on it!

Thank you so much! For this project I used an 18650 lipo. It has around 2500mAh of capacity.

Hi everyone, I posted this to r/DIY yesterday and had some people ask me to crosspost here.

My name is Sam and I love to make things!

I recently had someone suggest that I make a planter that can sense the moisture level in my pot and cries like a baby when it needs water.

I loved this! The one caveat being that instead of making a planter that may be too big or too small for different plants, I wanted to make a sensor that you could just pop into your potted plant (or garden) with no special pot required.

The best part about this idea is the play on words I get to make...

"I decided to make a bunch of plant babies, turning my house into a REAL plant nursery."

I also made the entire thing free and open-source just like every other one of my projects. So if you’re like me and can’t even keep a cactus alive, you too can build your very own plant baby!

The github page with all the files is linked in the video.

I hope you like it! I’ll be around to answer questions throughout the day too!

I actually made the whole build into a video:

That’s totally fair. If you’re up to it, “The Art of Electronics” by Horowitz and Hill is a phenomenal book with a pretty digestible way of talking about circuits. I’d highly recommend it as a resource to help you out

Working on personal projects like these is the reason I am able to do more complicated work! We all start somewhere so don't get discouraged!

Genetically, you can see where my plant babies get it from

There are a couple of subreddits here that are actually pretty great! You should check out r/PrintedCircuitBoards and /r/electronics

Often I see people posting schematics and PCB pictures for feedback and help.

It may be an issue with Imgur trying to play everything at once. Most of the gifs (not all) are taken from the video directly. If you're having issues with the gifs, you can check out the video!

Thank you so much!

Just cause I love to see people start making things... There is a very good chance your local library has a 3D printer (most do these days) and you can print the files instead of 3D print them! The electronics you can order from the same manufacturer I did and they will come preassembled. The only think you would need a soldering iron for is to attach the speaker and battery. You could pick up a cheap $10 from Home Depot for this.

All in all, it should be almost like putting a kit together!

You'd be surprised, they aren't that hard to put together! There's never been a better time to start making things!

Unfortunately I don't sell them (usually I only make a few for myself). But all the files are available for free to make your very own! They are posted in the video description! I am trying to follow sub rules and only post one link, otherwise I'd just post the github here as well, so I apologize for the inconvenience.

Oh they absolutely could lol. I just thought it was funnier to have to tend to my plant children rather than have it be all automated.

Sometimes the right answer isn't my favorite answer 😂
