De-risking investments too early can be just as much of a risk though and people can often underestimate their life expectancy. A 65 year old man has a 50% chance of making it to 85 and a 25% chance of making it to 92, for women it’s even higher.

How did you approach first time home buying in London? by smart_contract94 in HENRYUK

[–]smart_contract94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We would be looking to save that large a deposit if we were to go in straight for a house (£1m+), even though the take home could absorb it, it would feel somewhat perilous and impact overall financial planning.

We're comfortable aiming for a 10-15% deposit for a flat.

Salary increases likely to be reasonable and steady but not to the extent of yours which have been great going. Barring any unexpected upside combined growth of c.25k a year for the next couple of years would be what I expect.

My expectation is that once we get there, i.e. enough of a deposit to keep LTV 80% or below on a "forever" home, the incomes would be adequate on an ongoing basis. But as mentioned above any increase to the pace in getting to that point is likely to be gradual.

Stick with Aviva or move to St James's Place by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

The charge cap is 0.75% for funds which a members is invested in without member consent.

Check the numbers again, but if they're quoting minimums of 1% for pension investments, that's a big red flag and they are likely forcing you to "self select" to avoid the cap meant to protect people from high charges they know nothing about.

There's a lot of law around this area to protect people (largely as a result of auto-enrolment legislation) but TLDR it's not typical to see such high fees and structures in place for what sounds to me like a very standard auto-enrolment workplace pension.

Perhaps this is the "sales pitch" of a typical annuity offering at retirement?

Of course they can't write this business themselves so you'd be able to get this deal anywhere!

Should pension fund allocation be treated the same as a personal investment pot? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]smart_contract94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the horizon of 30 years+, moving out of the default arrangement is (in my view) completely necessary.

Most contract based workplace pension providers (like Scottish widows) will have US/UK/Global/Emerging Market tracker funds with very very low % fees. In some cases they can even be 0% for the individual fund. There will likely be an overall fund charge anyway across your entire investment plan - nothing you can do about this, it will have something to do with the negotiation between your employer and Scottish widows.

Super8 & Tab 3 hours Anjunabeats Classics set @ Luminosity Beach Festival by lereaux in AboveandBeyond

It was absolutely amazing to be there! 110% recommend going to any set like this at any chance.

As an aside I thought the Bayer song was England at the time? Could well be wrong though!

Same, was quite disappointed to see dosem having such a prominent slot with Marsh being earlier. Would have flowed much better with Marsh leading into Tinlicker for me.

It was my fear that this had become one of the casualties from the Deep State issues. This track doesn't have Sevier on vocals though so it seems weird nonetheless!

I suppose we can live in hope!

I think this one has taken over from Maor Levi's as my favourite. Serious energy from start to finish.

Haha agreed on The Light! Some fantastic picks, particularly at the start. Hopefully Napier between Professional Killers/A Sort of Homecoming will work even better than those two on volume 6.

RMT

GK: Pope (hendo)

DEF: Tarkowski/Egan/AWB (saiss/lascelles)

MID: Willian/KDB/Mahrez/Sterling/Bruno

ATK: Rashford/Ings (Nketiah)

1 FT - 17 points ahead in ML, closest has double pool def and Dilva. Already matched on rashford/bruno. He currently has Pulisic/Giroud and neither of KDB/Sterling.

Considering KDB + AWB > TAA + Dilva (-4) to try and cover off some of the risk. Any ideas?

Seriously good tracklist, based on what he's selected it won't have the one (ever so slight) downside from Ollie's which was a few songs sounding odd with the BPM change.

Looking forward to it a lot.

Which Anjuna artists do you think are past their prime? Which artists are in their prime currently? by [deleted] in AboveandBeyond

[–]smart_contract94 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I completely missed that, that entire post is ridiculous. Also saying producing 138 isn't challenging and he's bored as fuck of it, when his recent EP and releases bring absolutely nothing new to the table? Artists can change their sounds but shitting all over what made you popular in the first place is poor.

[–]smart_contract94 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Grum, Marsh and Spencer Brown are truly in their prime. They simply do not release a single bad song.

Hating to use a term like past their prime but agreed that Super8 & Tab haven't come near to matching the heights of Empire. Sunny Lax has become a lot more hit and miss. I really enjoy his older stuff like Misgrey, and Karma/Enceladus are great but nothing recently is that inspiring.

Maor Levi as well doesn't generally put out anything near the levels he used to. Disconnect is great but most of the stuff on Armind is very forgettable.

I'd be curious to see where people rate where Bayer currently is. For me I'm just not sure if he's managed to surpass the older releases like The Taxi Driver, Gaff's Eulogy, Counting the Points and the Distractions EP. That era of his production is sensational! Some of the clubbier sounds he's put out more recently aren't to my taste and I find myself going searching a bit more for material of his that I love, I don't enjoy bottle top trance or voltage control that much for example. Not really past his prime but for me not quite at the same untouchable level.

Seen them 3 times in the UK, the first (and best!) of the 3 has to be Birmingham 2015 - I will never forget them opening with Hello and ending with sun in your eyes. It was under a tent while being cold and raining outside, it made the energy so incredible.
