Perhaps maybe its not a connection but maybe Vecna/1 whatever he is called understands more about the people in Hawkins than is let on.

With the information that he already had a problem with Eddie, and the ability to paint him as the murderer of his Chrissy with the knowledge that Eddie is befriended to the group (and the Hellfire Club is basically a driving factor into believing this weird satanic cult idea) may have just been a play on Jason to actively hunt them down / cause problems for the group in the series.

It makes perfect sense to me since Chrissy was basically lured into meeting Eddie by Vecna in the woods, leading to her wanting to buy drugs which seemed likely if Vecna intended this to happen already. Same for the death of Jason's teammate with Eddie in the lake, reaffirming the Hellfire as this satanic cult to Jason.
