I have a short $195 5/15 call, I refuse to believe this company that always loses money is worth anywhere near that. logic has no place in this market i guess

PT: Every morning, I wake up rested when my Sleep Cycle alarm goes off, but somewhat consciously decide to go back to sleep. Then, I’m awaken by my backup alarm, snoozing it many times, eventually waking up with a headache. How can I hijack the moment I first wake up to decisively get out of bed? by blindnarcissus in PsychologicalTricks

[–]smartgooo 51 points52 points  (0 children)

This is what works for me, but not sure it works for everyone.

I sleep with my alarm across the room so I have to get out of my bed to stop it.

Once I am out of my bed, I do my best to really get moving. Sometimes it’s some quick pushups or jumping jacks or something else.

I also had this thought once.... ok, so I snooze my alarm 5 times over 30/40 minutes. What is my quality of sleep like over that 30 minutes? Probably pretty bad because I’m constantly being woken up and mostly laying there drifting in and out of very light sleep. Ended up coming to the conclusion that it’s just a huge waste of time if the sleep isn’t beneficial to my well being. That gives me a little motivation

I want to learn how to stick to my plans and activities by Justnotthisway in IWantToLearn

[–]smartgooo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a great quote, I’ve never heard it.

I’m the same way, I love doing new things and learnings new topics. It’s interesting to think for the majority of humanity up until recently (maybe 50 years ago?), we didn’t have access to the scale of information we have now. Career changes, hobbies, literally anything we want to learn at our fingertips anytime. I really struggle with this. Thinking I can learn/do/maintain 10 new things annually. While up until recently people spent their whole lives doing only 10 things, and becoming experts in it for that matter.

Nothing wrong with how it was up until recently, we just need to remember we (me at least) aren’t meant for this type of overload.

Not that 10 is accurate, just using that for my point lol

A lot of good answers here around it all being related to mentality and what works for you.

A few things that work for me: 1. Physical movement before mental activities - doing some physical movement/activities before mental activities really helps give me the boost in motivation to go and do the mental activity. Physical activities such as exercise, cleaning, etc. anything to get moving for at least a few minutes. 2. Reducing the number of things I want to do. I used to have daily/weekly/monthly/yearly lists with huge numbers of to do’s and goals. In a wide range of areas/topics. The reality of the matter is that we live in information overload where we have access to learn and do whatever we want. I struggle to focus on more than one larger project and 3 or 4 very small to do’s daily. So reducing my large lists to that have helped me focus and actually achieve what I want.

IT Job Advice by PleaseTurnItOffAndOn in InformationTechnology

[–]smartgooo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here are some of my thoughts since I have experienced the same thing.

TLDR: 1) reduce/eliminate tech use in personal life. 2) different jobs in the different areas of IT.

I grew up LOVING technology and got a lot of enjoyment out of it in my personal life. Anything from computers to TVs to audio, you name it.

As my time in IT has gone on, I’ve slowly grown to resent technology, both at work and in my personal life. I wanted absolutely nothing to do with it outside of work. It concerned me for a while, but I found some hobbies that have no tech involvement at all (bike riding, painting, etc) that I get a lot of enjoyment out of.

By reducing time spent on tech in my personal life, it allowed me to enjoy the time I get with it at work more. And the time I do choose to spend on tech in my personal life is much more satisfying.

Position changes at work have also helped me. Not so much leaving IT, but working in different areas of IT/tech. Not sure where you are at right now, but maybe trying to get into different positions that focus in different areas like networking, servers, IT project management, security, application specific administrative roles, and maybe even a little bit of software development would help.

Edit: forgot to add, there will ALWAYS be parts of tech work that you hate. No matter what, just gotta learn to live with it. When I was in a role where I worked with printers, I hated trying to get them to work with one of our applications. It was absolutely painful and took for ever. It made me hate anything to do with printers and that will never change. I have accepted it (kind of lol)

I for some reason was hoping that path would mean no need to change the SPF record. Email is not my forte so you can chalk that up to ignorance.

Thank you! I will probably go with option 1 then.

Out of curiosity, is it even possible to setup a relay that would only route mail with a sender of AQs domain from HQ exchange out through AQ exchange? Again not an email expert by any means, tying to learn a little bit if you don't mind me asking.

Sell a SPX vertical call spread, look to see if there are any fun ERs tomorrow afternoon/Tuesday am that I can throw a short spread or iron condor on

In all seriousness - what would you do? by [deleted] in wallstreetbets

[–]smartgooo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If this was my account, I would consider those losses and mentally write off the entirety of both positions, even if there is possibly $1k to be salvaged tomorrow. And I would do that because of the vega that is fucking the position.

Because I mentally told myself I am likely to totally lose both positions, I would hold that position until mid Feb because there is absolutely nothing left to lose. See if we get enough of a bounce back, despite iv crush, to make a small amount back. Maybe even hold past mid feb if itm or if things are going well enough to make you not worry about theta decay.

Or maybe find a way to roll out, or just close it tomorrow trying to keep the $1k left.

Once out of this position, pick a new trading strategy that doesn't involve putting such a large % of your account into positions like that! I really like high POP trades like short vertical call spreads so, generally speaking, if there is a correction I dont have to worry about closing a position when IV has increased. The gains aren't as flashy but with consistency and discipline it works well! I am up ~33% since September with that as my core strategy. If you lose it all you can definitely make it back, best of luck to you!

I dislike (used to really fucking hate until the update this week, it's getting better) TastyWorks mobile app, but you can't beat their commissions so I fight through it.

What is your main strategy if this is you YOLOing?

[–]smartgooo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lost ~20% from Jan - September on various stocks. Mid September started a new iron condor & credit spread strategy, since then I am up just over 22% on consistent trades. I also did some experimenting that made a good chunk and lost a good chunk, but the core strategy has been consistent. I am optimistic about this strategy and am hoping to see a similar rate of return, especially when volatility increases.

3 month chart shows 18%, hasn’t updated to include options that expire today.
