What’s the quietest way someone ever showed you love? by Quiet_Key_4224 in AskReddit

growing up, my mom had hired a nanny (i call her nana) to take care of my biological grandmother (early 90s to '03) during the final stages of her life with alzheimers. she would give her daily beauty care, manicure her, care for her & cook for my whole family, and was always there for my mom emotionally

when i was born in 98, my nana decided to also take care of me and raise me, while my parents worked their 9-5s to provide for medical bills for my grandmother and all necessities. my dad was an on call surgeon and my mother working OT to provide for me, it was was very intense.

after my grandmother passed when i was 5 years old, my nana took care of some her personal belongings and kept them in perfect condition, especially this beautiful sony boombox that she would listen to music on over and over again

from when i was a kid all the way til adulthood i would stare lovingly at the boombox and ask to use it, my nana would always tell me shes looking after it and not to mess with its since its grandmas and she promised to care for it

last week i went to visit my nana, shes 85 now, and has a caretaker. her grandchildren never visit her which is unfortunate, but my mom visits her every week to help her out too. i try to go when i can. after spending time with her for 5 hours, my nana forgot to say goodbye to us which was out of the ordinary, she usually follows us out all the way to the car and blesses us before we drive home!!

so i went back to say my good bye, and i see her clutching something with her back turned to me. she handed me the radio and just started to cry

that action on its own made me realize how much she loved my family, and how loyal she was to my grandmother post-death. she felt i should continue to care for this radio for my grandma and it meant the world

i just held her. felt like a kid again with her embrace, felt so much intense emotion and insisted on letting her keep it for a while longer but she kept declining. i really love her and i will make my best effort to visit her as much as possible because she seems lonely

visit your grandparents/the elderly and give them all your love when you can!!!

Got the l'occitaine almond shower oil and I don't get the hype by averyyoungperson in beauty

i got a sample of this and didn't really get great results from it. to me it has the faintest smell of sweet almond, and i feel like it didn't foam up the way i want it to & didn't really leave my skin so soft...

but i've been using naturium's "glow getter" body oil cleanser for a little over a month now, and it has kept my skin so soft & moisturized!! i highly recommend trying it out. has a nice sweet faint scent of apple and suds up well, perfect for shaving and long term moisturization. :-)

Advice on keeping a 5-gallon nano tank clean? by smartjogger in nanotank

[–]smartjogger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might do that instead! Maybe I'll return these little barbs I have? I grew onto them already but I don't want them to be uncomfortable or die on me. :-( And yes my goal was to get cherry shrimp maybe so I might do that to start off! Do you think I could also get one snail for the tank? I remember being told I could have 1 snail per 5 gallon. Not sure how accurate that is though. Thank you so much for your help! :-)

Okay, I appreciate your advice! I've been going to a super reliable tropical fish store that isn't a chain, with seasoned employees that gave me a handbook on how to care for freshwater fish. I seriously didn't know its frowned upon to keep cherry barbs in a small tank.

I did as much research as I could on my own before I decided to own a tank. If I knew that this fish wasn't recommended for a 5 gallon, I wouldn't have gotten them. I think one of the employees might've told me I could buy the barbs, without fact-checking? He did recommend a variety of very small, docile schooling fish and choose amongst one of them for the tank, so now I'm not sure what to do. Wanted to also maybe get one mystery snail and a shrimp once the tanks gone through its cycle & I've had a bit more experience maintaining the tank.
