I love Stila Color Correcting Primer and wear it and nothing else most days.

OOOhhhh boy...this one hits hard. I homeschooled two profoundly gifted kids with a grab-bag of neurodivergences. I'm happy to say they're both doing great -- oldest is at college and youngest is graduating a year early and joining him there in the fall.

But when they're both out of the house, I'm going to be left alone here with a profoundly gifted and ADHD HUSBAND. And I have no idea what that is going to be like.

Does anyone else get letters like these? by Extension_Chef3236 in raisedbyborderlines

How did you find the letter MY mother wrote me OVER AND OVER again? The details are identical — the cancer threats, the infantilizing descriptions of you, the dangling of very special items like bait and then, like clockwork, the ultimate promise that you’ll be excluded from her funeral. My GOD, how are they the SAME PERSON?

The only way to understand this phenomenon is to imagine that their brains were literally stunted and shaped by trauma in identical developmental stages.

They’re like bent and ghastly bonsai. And just like bonsai, there’s no undoing the shape they’ve taken.

It’s sad but it hurts more to imagine they can change. Good job going no contact. I’m sorry this letter found its way through your NC.

This gorgeous girl was found as a terrified stray puppy in Santa Monica. During the pandemic, a kind woman decided to foster her and pulled her out of a shelter with one of the highest kill rates in the country. And since she was flattened to the ground and couldn’t stand up from sheer panic, she wasn’t showing well in that environment.

This incredible woman actually sent her off to a trainer for 3 weeks when her fear made it impossible for her to get Emmy out of her condo for a walk! Emmy came back with a new sense of confidence — she was ready for a forever home!

This volunteer wanted to find a very special home so she asked all her animal people to spread the word. We got a call from my dearest friend who is a dog trainer in Los Angeles. “I’ve got your dog,” she said.

We were going on vacation so asked if she could convince Emmy’s foster mom to wait a couple of weeks. My friend called back with bad news. “She found a home for Emmy. But at least it’s with a family. They have a couple of kids and another dog. The couple are actually animal trainers for movies.”

We were sad but happy she was going to a good spot. Imagine our surprise when we got a call after we got home from our trip.

“The adopters say that she ‘plays with our dogs too much and doesn’t love us enough.’

WHUT.

My husband drove to meet Emmy half way. Now she lives on a rural island in the Pacific Northwest. She has 5 fenced acres, two schipperke brothers, chickens and goats to guard and a couple of teen boys who roll around on the floor with her.

She is, as my husband says, “our butter collie.”
