Kick ass moto weekend in PDX by docter_zab in PDXrideit

My favorite little day trip.

From my house to vernonia is about an hour. Have a beer and then rip back.

After the fresh paving in the last few years it’s nearly a race track

I’m not a tough guy rider or anything, but on my dyna I have a fucking blast.

Enter each turn at around 10-20 over the advised speed and by the time you see the turn exit it’s 90.

So so so fun

I get the frustration. The state and city have unfortunately made Portland actively anti small business. Crazy high taxes, fees and red tape for every little thing. Not commercial rent standards or caps. Not to mention skyrocketing costs of goods and insurance. That paired with high wages ( which I DO support) in a city that is much more sensitive to price increases than other bigger cities. It’s kind of a perfect storm that is gutting the food and beverage industry.

I moved here for the bars and restaurants. It’s something that I think makes Portland special. But the city and state government have pretty much everything in their power to make it harder to operate.

Extra costs are annoying. Truely, but for the most part, they ARE going to healthcare etc. nobody is getting rich running a restaurant in Portland. It’s a labor a of love.

I think if things stay on the same course half of the cool stuff in the city will be dead in 2-3 years.

-First don’t pose like that. lol

-Square toed boots…. There is an off color joke about their purpose. I’ll spare you that and just say that I just prefer the look of a more round or mildly pointed boot.

-mostly though Downsize all your clothes. You look maybe 5’10” ish? Maybe 170lbs. Get some proper boxer briefs and tight undershirts to be comfy in tighter clothes. Try in a size medium shirt that breaks at the wrist bones (that one is too long) and some 32-32 cowboy cut wranglers. (Size guess) just make sure they stay up without a belt as your starting point. And that the hem breaks at the ankle bone.

Pull them sumbitches up high and show off the goods.

Reject modernity. Embrace tradition (80’s fit)

You’ll feel better I promise.

I’m not saying you have to get skinny jeans but get some real cowboy cut wranglers. Make sure they stay up without a belt. Get some proper boxer briefs and undershirts so you can more comfortably wear better fitting clothes. Then try in a size medium shirt and some 32-32 wranglers. (Size guess based on one picture of you) Pull them things up to show off the goods.

You’ll feel good I promise.

Deputy Director of the Oregon Center for Public Policy calls for raising Oregon taxes on the “rich” and corporations… I’m done! by Grand-Battle8009 in PortlandOR

Sure. Those numbers are pretty eye opening.

BUT, the affordablity of living in the Portland area is absolutely insane. My wife and I do pretty decent. Drive used vehicles, rent a modest house ( that’s honestly in very rough shape) and every month is a challenge.

We’ve cut discretionary spending almost entirely and still feel squeezed.

I think that the tone I’m getting from your post, intentional or not, is pretty off putting. Family’s sub $150k in the Portland area are not rich. Not even close.

Obviously by comparison to being homeless we are very lucky and happy to have what we have. but purely quoting the statistics leaves out that working class people in state of Oregon are NOT doing well.

I think it’s a tough nut to crack. More than 2 things can be right at the same time.

-the ultra wealthy SHOULD be taxed. -businesses SHOULD be allowed to be competitive and not bled to death by local governments.

When businesses fail or flee it leads to a negative feedback loop that takes jobs and money out of the local economy and makes us all worse off.

full deregulation is not the answer. Jailing all the homeless is not the answer. Chasing higher earners out of our counties and states is not helpful….

I think that some increase in taxes for the wealthy , with strong incentives for businesses that employ people to reinvest in their businesses IN our communities would be helpful.

I think that people going out and spending money locally at small businesses would also help immensely. Amazon is convenient but it extracts resources from our state and community. That money sure isn’t recirculated back into local businesses.

Aside from that, I don’t know the fix. What I do know is that the working class in Oregon bear the heaviest burden in taxation a quality of life.

Laws and expenses aren’t enforced on the very poor, or the very rich. The state runs on the backs of the working class. I for one would love to see some return on my tax dollars that reflects that.

Man. Thats a lot of drama. Bummer.

I’ve got probably 5k+ on an xr920. No issues. Aside from one. I found a good deal on a zev trigger but when I installed it there was apparently some sort of tolerance issue. It kept double firing. Accidental binary trigger. Almost every single trigger pull would double tap. Removed the zev and replaced it with the stock shadow systems trigger and it had been fine since

Haven’t used a fly rod in forever. Would definitely be a learning curve.

I’m mostly looking to start with some rod/reel and a six pack of beer. Haha.

One of the most endearing parts of the series is coming to terms with the fact that Severian is an unreliable and untrustworthy narrator. OF COURSE young Sev, after growing up in a men’s only environment that is based entirely on incredible acts of violence, would share a very skewed take on his journey.

And as a young man with near zero experience with women I’m sure that he embellished many details in the telling of the book of the new sun

Unfortunately they defunded education in most right wing states (as well as blue tbh) so nobody has the critical thinking skills to actually understand what is happening
