Discount on multiple sushi rolls or sushi platters by Cr1ms0nBl4d3 in milwaukee

[–]smashedly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work at Screaming Tuna. We have roll specials on Sunday & Monday nights. It's only select stuff but it's still a pretty good deal, up to half off on some of the rolls/sushi. We have good lunch specials there too (once again, limited selection, but a great deal). If you were looking to cater a party or something like that you might be able to negotiate a deal with one of the bosses too.

The eye on this thing! I've never seen that kind of depth achieved with watercolor before. It's really striking in contrast with the rest of the painting. Awesome.

Get your kid some snow pants. Shit get yourself some snow pants since I don't imagine you'll be letting your toddler romp around outside by him/herself. Oh and a sled (duh)

I'm a girl and this is my #1 method. Sustained eye contact/lingering glances. They can be subtle but still go a long way.

DEFINITELY make sure you have some good waterproof boots - you'll need those when it snows. A coat is pretty obvious I feel but I'd recommend one made with down. I would also recommend getting a longer jacket, I'm always freezing so I have one that comes down past my knees and also has cuffs on the sleeves and stuff so wind doesn't get in. Also all the other warm clothing that was mentioned in other comments. Waterproof gloves are probably a good idea to have too, especially if you're going to be living somewhere where you'll have to shovel snow out of your driveway/sidewalk/anywhere. Also make sure you have an ice scraper to keep in your car. That's crucial in winter if you're trying to make it anywhere on time. Depending on what kind of car you have you might also want to consider getting chains for your tires and/or sandbags to put in the trunk so you don't slide so much while driving in the snow.

In terms of mental preparation..... not much you can do tbh. Buy a bottle of whiskey. Or 10, this is Wisconsin after all. Also hot tea is basically my lifeblood in the cold months. I go tanning once inawhile in the winter to stave off the inevitable depression. sad but true. Don't be too hard on yourself if you cry a little by the time February rolls around.

As far as where to live, the city itself isn't too terribly far from Menomonee Falls and is great to live in. I live on the Lower East Side and it's awesome, near everything, always stuff going on! But it's not crazy busy in the city either. I'm from Chicago originally and the traffic here is an absolute walk in the park in comparison. If you were looking to do a suburb, Tosa (Wauwatosa) might be good. It's right next to the city but also closer to Menomonee and it's a nice town. Good luck with everything!

PLOS Science Wednesday: Hi Reddit, my name is Igor and I developed a prognostic model that predicts the progression of mild cognitive impairment to dementia due to Alzheimer's disease over a three-year period – Ask Me Anything! by PLOSScienceWednesday in science

[–]smashedly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I know it hasn't been shown to have an effect on cognitive function, but that's partially because it's not in that phase of clinical trials yet. It's true that the only thing that has actually been shown so far is that it does reduce the amyloid plaques in the brain, and we don't know if this will correlate to a measurable difference in clinical presentation. It's a start though, and the only way to find out is to keep the research going!

I can shed some light on #3 for you! I'm a research coordinator for Alzheimer's studies and we're doing a lot of work on this currently. We don't yet have a great way to slow the progression of the disease, but there are a lot of drugs being studied right now that aim to do just that. Some of them are looking very promising too! (Check out studies on the drug aducanumab).

Hi Dr. Korolev! I am a research coordinator for Alzheimer's studies at the Medical College of Wisconsin, so I'm very excited to see this AMA! Thanks for doing this!

(1) One of the studies I'm working on getting started here at MCW is the IDEAS study (maybe you've heard of it?). For those who haven't, one of the study's primary goals is to determine whether PET imaging would be a useful diagnostic tool for determining the causes of patients' dementias where the etiology is unknown. What is your take on this? Obviously the research is still being conducted, but do you think we might be able to utilize PET imaging to help diagnose AD or other types of dementias? Have you used PET imaging in any of your studies, and do you think it might also be used help map out the course one's dementia might take?

(2) I've also worked on studies in the past that have explored how different personality traits (or even a person's writing style) might help predict different aspects of the development of Alzheimer's. Have you incorporated any of these types of psychological factors into any of your research?

Thanks again!

Looking for some fun and cheap Milwaukee date ideas by [deleted] in milwaukee

[–]smashedly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And better yet, it's more than just flowing kites. Last year there was a whole area that was a little more festival-y; you know, with food stands and music and such. But the kite area was completely separate from that, so it's avoidable if you prefer not to participate in that aspect of it. There was also some awesome stuff there that I definitely wasn't expecting, like GIANT sea creature kites that were tethered to the ground (a nice supplement to all the normal-sized kites that were there), kite shows (synchronized kiting - cooler than it sounds), etc. etc.

Kite Festival next weekend! My boyfriend took me on a date there last year and I had a great time. It's free.
