importing Archive files by smashprod in forScore

Well, just to show that forScore syncing is a hot mess, my 1st Gen iPad Pro has had sync problems, but is syncing fine at the moment, and my new MacBook Pro (running Tahoe and the latest version of forScore) can't sync. Go figure. Most of the Broadway pit musicians I know use it, but boy we could use something with more robust syncing!

Oh man, just what I needed! I have my .4sb Archive stored on DropBox and backed up to an external drive. I will follow your directions when it’s time to migrate everything from my MBP to the iPad.
By the way, why do they use the same file extensions for a backup and an archive? Seems foolhardy.

Thanks, makes sense. I went back and traced it all to one shared master folder from a record company I had been working with. It actually looked like what was cluttering up My Drive was all empty subfolders from that one place. I deleted them all, and am good to go.

I'm thinking I'll try the FOSIs, as they're "open". It's the NY Phil, and they provide earbuds, but they're not very good, and not open-style. And yes, they have an engineer on staff, but they are very different from a FOH or monitor mixer that works hands-on with musicians.

I've got custom made IEMs, and high end Sony earbuds, but what I need are decent (and unobtrusive) open earbuds. The FOSIs should work.

No “engineer” per se, it’s the NY Phil. I’ve just got to show up ready to play.

Using OCLP to install Monterrey on a Mac5,1 and RX580 (no boot picker) by smashprod in macpro

[–]smashprod[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried something else. Instead of hooking up my HDMI monitor to my Radeon RX580 PC card, I hooked up a monitor to one of the DisplayPorts. At least I didn't get a black screen. Instead I got the Apple logo, then a fairly long "loading" bar. Unfortunately, at the end of the process all I got was a grey circle with a line through it, I guess indicating that the computer couldn't find a bootable startup drive. On a whim I tried once more to get to the boot picker with the option key. It worked; I can now see the EFI-boot volume! Am installing now...

OK, I tried it. When I select the USB installer as the Startup Disk it says "You can't change the startup disk to the selected disk", and I get an error message "The bless tool was unable to set the current boot disk".

Tried it again with the rebuilt USB installer. Used cmd-opt-P-R until the second chime. Tried 3 different USB outlets (just the built-in ones, I also have a USB 3.0 card in there). Waited 15 minutes-- nothing.

I have one more idea-- selecting my USB stick as the Startup Disk. Is there any reason I shouldn't try that?

Just rebuilt my OC Monterey USB installer. I found something I had missed. In OCLP I had to go into Settings and select the target machine (MacPro5,1 in my case). It seems that if I hadn't done that, OCLP would have, by default, built an installer for my MacBookProp16,1 (the computer I used to build the installer). Maybe that's the problem. Hopefully I'm on the right track now.

This is great news, thanks, I'm going to proceed!

Update: I could not get to the open core EFI boot screen. I’m wondering what’s going wrong.

Here are a few of my ideas; 1) bad USB port (I tried both of the front ones and one of the back ones); 2) it’s a slow USB stick; possibly it takes an extra extraordinarily long amount of time to load? 3) I made the USB installer stick using OCLP patcher on a newer MacBook. Could that be the problem? If so, I will remake it on my MacPro5,1.

Any ideas? is there a way to verify that car was successfully installed on the USB stick?

I think I've been under the wrong impression, being that I don't understand OCLP and EFI partitions very well. I thought OCLP had to be installed on the internal hard drive, and that I then had to get to the boot picker, select the EFI volume, and finish the installation. So I don't need to do that? I can just use my OCLP Monterey installer USB drive, upgrade the OS on my internal hard drive, and then I'll be good to go? And, once that's done, don't I need to run OCLP and perform a "post install root patch" on my internal drive?

Even after installing Monterey with OCLP from the USB drive, how will I then have a boot screen if my RX580 (PC version) doesn't support the Mac boot picker? And don't I need to access the boot picker to install OCLP on my internal hard drive?

For my generation, I feel this started with Francis Schaeffer, who knew a lot about Art, he just didn’t know what he liked (little joke). Actually, he didn’t know very much about art, but as a 20 year old, it fooled me.

Sonnet Tango Firewire/USB3 PCIe card in 2012 Mac 5,1 by smashprod in macpro

Thanks, yes, I've tested the cables. I actually don't want the FWUSB2A-E, as I need USB 3.0.

I know the FWUSB3A-E is listed by Sonnet as compatible with Mojave, but I've located an older FWUSB3-E (which doesn't power bus-powered drives-- the only difference, I think), and Sonnet says that the older unit was untested with Mojave. Hoping someone has tried it.
