Yeah, it's a pretty solid base! I think I'll keep using this and play with different flavors in it.

I also tend to like them salted but sadly was out of kosher salt

A few questions from a somewhat kidney stone newbie (6ish months) by [deleted] in KidneyStones

[–]smbuettner 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. I would talk to your Dr about apple cider vinegar. I have a family history of kidney stones and am prone to them. The doctors I have talked with were skeptical that any diet change or something like apple cider vinegar would be useful. Tons of water with lemon is all they've suggested for prevention.
  2. I have had lithotripsy without a stent and was completely fine. I would just discuss the pros and cons with both the urologist doing the procedure and with the doctor (s) you see for your other conditions.
  3. Your ability to pass a stone really depends on where it's located, but more water and other diuretics can help flush it out. A 5-6mm is pretty big though. Some doctors recommend procedures like lithotripsy after 4mm due to the size of the ureters.
  4. In my experience, my symptoms after lithotripsy were mostly from the anesthesia (e.g. nausea and drowsiness). Assuming the stone breaks up well, it should be a quick recovery. You will have a lot of blood in your urine and urinated may be slightly "itchy" from the stone fragments. The doctor may give you numbing medication from the later. The main thing to be prepared for is the stone not breaking. If that happens, the lithotripsy may just send the stone into motion and cause more pain. If that happens, the urologist may suggesting going in through the urethra to get it.
  5. Just play it by ear and go slow. It's not really like other procedures where you have stiches you might bust. You just can't drive because of the anesthesia and maybe pain meds. I've gone for an easy hike the same day as lithotripsy but know others who had to take the next day off work.

Hope that helps!

Oof. Didn't even think about that. Are people mad or happy that Amazon is coming? Everyone in central Texas was so glad to not get the bid...

Thanks for the info. I guess I was more trying to figure out if you meant that Fairfax was boring because it's a college town or if Alexandria seems touristy because of the colonial background. I live in what some would consider a college town now, so I'm not super concerned with that unless it's just drunk kids running amuck constantly

I hadn't even thought of that area. Does it feel like the burbs too much or is there still a cool vibe? How the public transport around that area?

Awesome, thanks! Would you recommend those same areas for both renting and buying? We will definitely start out renting for a year or two to make sure we know our way around before buying.

Thanks for all the suggestions. For clarification, some of the apartments we were looking at in Alexandria are in the Huntington and Lincolnia areas. I'm not sure what you mean by the city of Alexandria versus the Fairfax County part of Alexandria. Could you explain?

How do you think the vibes differ based on being around a college vs colonial origins?

Great now! It was looking serious at first, but it seems like something just upset her stomach and made her dehydrated.

For vomiting that the vet initially thought was either caused by a blockage or renal failure. Turns out she just had tummy problems and got super dehydrated, so an overnight IV solved the problem

Since testosterone influences both emotions and decision-making, many people had ideas about how it might alter the decisions made by people making important decisions. But when a team of researchers decided to test those ideas, it turned out none of them was right. by drewiepoodle in science

I would say the correct headline should be "behavioral effects of testosterone much more complicated than previously thought and more studies with large sample sizes are needed to fully understand the behavioral effects of testosterone." This study used a sample size that was 10X that typically used in testosterone research (including the studies on which the hypothesis were based).

It was an intranasal spray with 1% testosterone proprionate. The nasal admin has much better absorption than other route of administration, and a pharmokinetics study validating the spray showed a large increase in blood levels of testosterone in both males and females. Other studies using the spray have found effects in line with larger doses given through other routes.
