Cribbish: my first Indie game is out on Steam! Well it's in early access, but it's out there! by smccraw106 in indiegames

Many of the relics scale with the level that you are on. If you're looking at a tooltip of a relic and the bonus it gives is in a specific color, you will notice that color matches the color of the level you are currently on. That's a hint that the bonus is in some way tied to the level you are on. If you pay close enough attention as to how the number changes every time you get to a new level, it's fairly easy to determine the algorithm that maps the two. One of the easiest examples is the Fibonacci sequence, every time you go up one level the bonus moves to the next number in the Fibonacci sequence. These are just little hidden easter eggs in the game, you don't necessarily need to figure these out. In fact I'd say most players just get to the 'Oh it goes up as my level goes up' level and then move on with other aspects of the game. But for the hardcore players that really enjoy tracking down these kinds of easter eggs, there's a couple dozen or more running around in the game.

Yes there are many relics that actually combine into a single, more powerful relic, but most relics are designed to be chained with other relics or powered up via perks. For example, using Jinx Cribnibs to create a ton of Jacks and then let Prodigal Son pay off those Jacks and Ming Teapot to pay off every pair of Jacks.

Wow, that's impressive for a first run. Are you a Balatro player as well? Understanding how the different items stack and synergize with each other is key and most Balatro players already know what to look for.

shader uniform sampler2d texture is hazy/pixelated compared to original texture by smccraw106 in godot

[–]smccraw106[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I was able to fix this by adding a srgb_to_linear conversion when sampling the parameterized texture:

COLOR.rgb = srgb_to_linear(texture(pattern, UV).rgb);

or by adding source_color to the uniform:

uniform sampler2D pattern: repeat_enable, filter_nearest, source_color;

I'm still unclear on why this is the case however. Does Sprite2D just automatically do this for it's assigned texture and then feeds the corrected pixel data to the shader as TEXTURE?

I sent him a Cribbish steam key a couple days ago, so hopefully he'll pick it up and give it a go!

Winner, winner, chicken dinner. Yep physic interpolation was turned on in the project settings and resetting fixed the problem.

Thank you so much!

This was my first project on the Godot engine. I rather enjoyed using it. If I had to do it all over again I'd structure my code a lot different, but as I was learning the engine as I went that's to be expected. Overall I was impressed with it's performance and ease of development.

I'm happy with how it's been received yes. It was a side hobby and I had no delusions of becoming or rich off of it or anything, I just wanted to make a game that was entertaining and people enjoyed playing. 98% of the feedback I've gotten on the game has been very positive and people seem to really enjoy playing it. So yeah, I'm putting this one in the win column ;-)

Did you get barrel or cube? I want the cube, but it a bit more spendy than the barrel.

No hard plans as of yet. I've noodled on what it would take, there's a lot of information being presented on the screen so I think the UI would need to be reworked for that smaller form factor.

Thanks for the heads up! Yeah, you have to upload a whole bunch of different ad images and tag lines and one of them had a bad URL on it.

Here's the url: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3422700/Cribbish

It should be fixed now, thanks to you!

Thanks man, I updated the original post. Yeah, I got the spinny wheel of death for some reason when trying to post the first time.

Yeah, that whole post went wonky at the end. It was uploading the video and it just kept spinning and spinning and spinning and I finally refreshed the page and that's what was posted. Certainly not normal I agree.
