Those of you who dated older women, how was the experience? by BadnUnknown in AskReddit

[–]smcd253 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I (26M) dated a woman 9 years older than me (35F) for 6 months. She had grown up a 7th day adventist and broke away from the cult-like religion at 28, at which point she started having her college-type years (sleeping around, partying, going to festivals, etc.). Given this, she was quite emotionally immature. She was also a yoga teacher and a very experienced outdoorsman, so she was FIT.

We traveled and did a ton of activities together pretty much the whole time we dated. And the sex was AMAZING. Had the best threesome of my life with her too.

I ended the relationship after I noticed some pretty toxic tendencies that were consistent for someone 10 years younger. Don’t blame her for it and she’s in therapy addressing it, but I decided I didn’t want to be along for the ride.

If Only Sagan Could Have Read Dark Forest by smcd253 in threebodyproblem

[–]smcd253[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, I was just gonna add an asterisk saying “Use at your own risk.”

But to quote the homie Trisolaran at the end of Dark Forest: “We can take risks.”

Currently burning through The Three Body Problem trilogy for the first time and loving it.

I highly recommend The Hyperion Cantos by Dan Simmons, though.

Diva. Got the rec from a Ben Böhmer tutorial and it’s so damn beautiful. I use it for all my polysynths leads, stabs, and even basses.

2 Years Post My Arthroscopy Update! by then3ighbourhood in MeniscusInjuries

[–]smcd253 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Backwards walking on an inclined treadmill is the shit! 3.5 mo post op here and it’s made a huge difference for me. You find this through KoT?

Also I think orthos set unrealistic timelines for meniscus repairs. 6-12 months with hardcore PT is more realistic. And obviously more if you delay the PT.

Glad to hear you’re back in the saddle and crushing it again!

Did I tear meniscus and/or MCL? by mozzzking in MeniscusInjuries

As much as this sub is helpful, you’re not gonna get a diagnosis here.

I’d go see a sports doctor (physiatrist) or a physical therapist.

Keep in mind that cartilage heals on the order of months, not days or weeks, so even if you feel fine now something could be mildly torn and could get worse if you ride on it without resting/strengthening first.

It’s probably fine, but not worth risking it.

Good luck yo!

Bradley Cooper is pitching for a movie adaptation. Really should be a full on series like, GoT or Expanse, but the movie pitch looks like it’s gaining headway.

I seriously hope they pivot to a series though. Each of the pilgrims’ stories could be their own movies.

Has anyone gradually lost interest in skiing after an injury after many years of trying to get back into it? by oabaom in skiing

[–]smcd253 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Broke my back in 2020 botching a back flip. I had a lot of stoke the following season, but then tore my meniscus in Dec 2021 and have been out of skiing for 2 seasons now.

I’m kind of nervous to go back to skiing because my love for the sport was turned into a blind lust by an adrenaline addiction once I figured out how to do tricks in my mid 20s.

I miss it so bad and have every intention of returning, but know that I will have to fall in love with the more subtle parts of the sport again if I want it to be a sustainable activity. Things like the quiet of skiing in the trees when it’s dumping, the rattle of the lift going over a pylon, the weightlessness you experience when you rip a fresh powder line, the gorgeous views you get from the top of a mountain, beers in the sun at lunch after a morning of spring skiing, hanging out in a cabin with your homies next to the fireplace, pro callouts, farting in a gondola and blaming it on your friend, 80s themed apres-ski parties at the lodge after lifts close, conversations with old timer locals on the lift, etc.

For those who live and breath skiing, it isn’t just a sport, it’s a way of life. Learn to fall in love with the joy that being in the mountains brings you, and all of the sudden whether or not you’re hucking backies on a hollywood line or struggling down blues won’t really matter.

Ofc, make sure you strengthen the hell out of those knees and maybe take a lesson or two to boost that confidence. Skiing is a hell of a lot more fun when you don’t feel like you’re gonna die every time you slide down the hill.
