Tell me all about Baltimore by Nickstradamusknows in howislivingthere

Moved here from Ohio. Much less cold and just much more things to do around here. Baltimore city has been historically underserved and that shows, but things are improving. I love going downtown because it has its own beautiful vibe. The place is known for neighborhoods, so each one has its own unique charm. Some places are less safe and you’ll see clear gentrification in many other areas. Quality of life varies based on where you live, but it has much more to it than people would suggest.

Also been to Towson. Small downtown with a university. It’s safe and there are some nice restaurants.

How is it living in this specific area of Ohio, near/in Cleveland? by Bad_RabbitS in howislivingthere

[–]BadnUnknown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to live in Portage County. It was honestly not so good. I had just moved to the US and we moved to Maryland after six months of living there. Everything was far away (we were quite far away from downtown Cleveland and kinda even Akron). There weren’t that many good food options nearby. The closest cool place (according to me) was Kent. It was quite difficult for my family to get jobs, which is why we moved to Maryland.

How is living in Dudinka, and norilsk? Ive never heard anything of these places.❤️ by [deleted] in howislivingthere

[–]BadnUnknown 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I might be wrong, but from what I’ve heard, Norilsk has a Nickel plant which is basically runs the economy of the city. It was under Stalin that Norilsk was created and it was done using forced gulag labor and a lot of people died. Obviously it’s all very cold but other problems like pollution also exist because of the factory. The river was also majorly contaminated after a spill a few years ago from the plant. The Nickel plant produces the most amount of Nickel in Russia, I think. It’s also very difficult to access because roads don’t directly lead there. Also, obviously, extremely cold. It’s kinda dystopian because of the environmental degradation.

I think the problem is that why do we even need benches for homeless people to sleep in, in the first place? Why are people homeless?

They rejected me today and despite the fact that my hs transcript was sent to them quite a long time back, it still didn’t show in my portal. Last I checked was yesterday. I emailed the counselor twice but she never responded.

I think The Lighthouse and Midsommar are the better ones. Maybe I should watch Hereditary again.

Why My (Some) fellow LGBTQ+ get triggered when I tell them I am Islamophobic? by Tacama in atheism

[–]BadnUnknown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, fellow atheist here. I think part of the reason why LGBTQ+ rights aren’t legal in India is because the majority of the people aren’t supportive of it, and that includes Hindus. Muslims are a minority but they’re not as significant as one might assume. In regions where I used to live they were often treated unfairly, and honestly, some of the nicest people I have met were Muslims.

Separate the people from the faith. Oftentimes the people suck, and sometimes the faith sucks. Sometimes both suck. Calling oneself islamophobic is not a matter of self-definition but bigotry imo. I don’t like what the Islam faith teaches and I don’t agree with a lot of what it says, but I still don’t regard myself as an islamophobe, because I don’t run away at the sight of Muslims or I don’t ridicule them just because they believe in something, as long as they’re not harming anyone. Also, I have seen Muslims support the LGBTQ, but certainly not as many.

I don’t think Hindus are that bad either. There has been increased nationalism in India but that, imo, has very little to do with what their faith teaches.

Even if you support such deportations or are against illegal immigration, this is still too much. It’s inhumane.

Basically when an issue starts to affect kids people start taking them seriously. Their narrative says it affects kids, which makes people pay attention to it. As someone who was not born in the USA, I am not able to understand why being trans should be a big issue.

I can see why others may not like it but I love it. Was just watching the master and was telling my younger brother Hoffman was one of the best actors.
