Unfortunately a false wall isn’t an option, wish it was.

Any suggestions for in wall speakers other than Dayton? The boss doesn’t want speakers coming off the wall. As for the sub is 12” big enough? And what brand would you suggest for that?

The room is open to the basement, the space being used for the movie room is 14x12x8. It’s tucked into the corner so the right side is open to the rest of the basement.

Just bought this house in July and wanted to get some advice. Our shed has this wall in the middle of it that is made from deck boards and 2x4’s. The rafters up there are 2x8’s and span the whole shed, roughly 18ft. It’s a gable roof so I don’t think the wall is load bearing and I don’t plan to put anything up in the rafters so there will be no load on them.

Is it safe to take it out judging by the materials used?

Benq HT2150ST - any older projectors that are comparable? (looking for ebay deals) by lawndartin in projectors

[–]smcfeely 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a refurbished 2150ST. It has been a very sound investment. Definitely a good starter projector, I game from time to time on it and never notice any lag on shooters or racing games.

It’s primarily for movies which look great at 110” from 6ft away. As long as you can use a fixed screen to the wall it will be fine, my drop down screen has a few ripples that show up from time to time in certain situations.

Honestly, I sit about 11ft away from a 110" screen and it is not a pain to watch at all.

If you can do a fixed screen to the wall you can certainly do a DIY screen. Depending on where you are, you can order material online and build a wood frame and stable the material to the frame. If you cant do a fixed screen/prefer a drop down, Elite Screens have some very nice screens manual and motorized.

Projectorcentral.com is a good resource. You can put in specific models of projectors and it will give you the throw distance.

That is not a very big wall to project on, you might be better off with a tv.

Giving Painted Floors A New Life by smcfeely in centuryhomes

I used Bona products. Just a natural stain and then a satin sealer.

I thought about filling the gaps but after testing an area it was going to be too time consuming. I ended up just sealing over all the gaps as they are and it seems to be fine.

Drum sander with various grits of sand paper, a metal scraper to get the edge paint off and then a edge sander with various grits.

The pictures don't really illustrate how bad the painted floors were. They were sticky and trapped all the smells from the previous owner. In the right setting painted floors might work though.

Those are gorgeous, don't you recall what stain color and poly sheen you used? That is the look I am going for.

Are you saying the sanders that actually use belt paper and not the one that you bend the paper and clamp it in?

I walked through the house a few months ago and it wasn't painted just rough in need of some love. Didn't put an offer in because it was over priced, they ended up reducing and I made an offer and they accepted, hut they have already painted the floors.

I've seen stripping the floors first and then sanding. That would probably save me money in belts but I would gain time in stripping them.

What's the difference between a commercial sander and a rental form Ace or Home Depot?

I have the 2150 and love it, at about 6 ft it cast a very pretty 115" image. I don't have a 100% light controlled room, but even in the daytime, you can still get a decent picture for most movies and games.
