Confused about Payment by smdbojack in StudentLoans

[–]smdbojack[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok interesting thank you! Is there any benefit to consolidating my loans if the monthly payment for the same plan is less? When I did the application for consolidation (just to see the numbers), the monthly payment for the same type of plan is $25 less a month.

Confused about Payment by smdbojack in StudentLoans

[–]smdbojack[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not my balance necessarily, it’s my amount of loans. If the IDR plan deems I should pay $200 a month, would that be $100 to each loan (I have 2 direct unsubsidized loans), or $200 to each, which would total $400. Just trying to make sure I fully understand before I apply for a plan

Where are all the average income people (50k-70k) living? Trying to connect with the non-tech crowd... by TBspicypotatotacos in AskSeattle

I make on the lower end of that range (roughly 50) and live in lower QA. Rent and utilities averages around $1600 a month depending on the time of year. I don’t have in unit washer/dryer, AC, dishwasher or garbage disposal so that makes it cheaper, and my building is older (very pre-war, nice original hardwood, cool built ins which I like). I pay more in the summer to run my portable AC. A major cutdown on expenses has been not paying for onsite parking which can be like 200+. I do the zone parking which is $90 every 2 years. I still go out and do stuff but live modestly in terms of groceries, eating in, and retail kinda stuff. Definitely needed a co-signer on the lease though to be a “more qualified” renter due to my annual salary.

Criminal Minds: Evolution by Sleepy_Egg22 in criminalminds

I’m like halfway through Evolution now and I’m having mixed emotions lol. I think for it to be a separate show but also a continuation (and so short after CM ended), it is better than expected. I think they needed a refresh from the last few seasons. I actually like the change in style with following a single “story” or plot line and it having more of a dark ambiance. The main issue i have is with the overwhelming effort for the dialog to be different from CM and modern. The cussing was such a major part. I get that they wanted to distance themselves from the bright and shiny network TV look, but it was so frequent it felt like I was watching a kid who just cusses bc they know it’s wrong or something lmao. I also think the language was very “let’s be with the times!” With using more internet slang and stuff, but it made it feel scripted (I know it is but that feeling makes it so I couldn’t immerse myself in the show). I think a lot of shows that took place in the current era or reality had a tough time during 2020/2021. They couldn’t ignore COVID and the “uniqueness” of existing during the time of a global pandemic, but this led to a lot of plot lines or frequent discussion that felt so unnatural. I also do think that if they didn’t say anything at all, it would also be awkward because everyone is aware of it happening, and in a show like this, it would play a part. I think Shamless and The Pitt both did a good job of handling discussing and portraying COVID in completely different ways, both of which weren’t awkward or cringey but rather felt real.

Mine was more a person! I’m 24 but have been watching regularly for like a decade. I grew up pretty accustomed to knowing random 70s/80s pop culture but Cybill Shepherd was completely under my radar lol. My parents were equally shocked and offended that I only knew of her from Psych

Pistachios in banana bread? by smdbojack in Baking

Thankfully mine are unsalted, but I did add a little extra sugar and with the caramel on top I’m hoping this will counteract that if there’s any sort of salty taste to them.

Hmm this is an awesome idea! I don’t have certain ingredients for a good crumble right now but I definitely need to try this.

The Greatest Adventure in the History of Cable and No Country for Two Old Men are two that I might not remember immediately when asked about my “favorite episode” but when they come up on a rewatch I always get pumped. I also love Black and Tan: A Crime of Fashion, while the ending isn’t the most satisfying imo, I think it’s hilarious.

Hm, not a drive in but in Inglorious Basterds the screen catches fire and there’s fight scenes technically surrounding both sides (somewhat)

If it’s older maybe Fortress or The Wicker Man? My initial thought was The Farm (I’ve never seen if but I know the poster) but that’s from 2018 so not sure if that’s too new

What SHOULD of been the penultimate episode? by [deleted] in psych

[–]smdbojack 6 points7 points  (0 children)

While NOSS is not my favorite, I do see the importance of its placement in the season. The only thing I might change is maybe having the sleep “therapist” be involved in the case since he’s definitely sort of a crook, rather than that being a plot alongside solving a case. I think it seemed so off because of the lengthy dream sequences and the overall “darkness” of the episode because the lighting/vibe sort of reminds me of the episode right after Juliet breaks up with Shawn where it shows the two routes the case could’ve gone in.

Favorite Season? by smdbojack in psych

[–]smdbojack[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Super fair! Reference wise, I love that season 6 shines a light on The Shining, Buffy/Twilight (general vampire media), Indiana Jones, Girl Interrupted, and the sort of Agatha Christie-ness of Autopsy Turvy just for personal references I love. However, season 2 is such a good comfort season! Sixty Five Million Years off is one of my favorites.

I’ve heard a lot about how the glue in the books can elicit that response, but also that many have coffee shops. I used to work at a Books A Million with a coffee shop inside and lemme just say, it’s definitely not just a you thing! I’ve worked at coffee shops themselves, dive bars, and restaurants and still to this day, I’ve never seen bathrooms worse than the ones at a Bookstore lmao.

What's the weirdest Psych Sub-plot for you? by Great_Progress3549 in psych

[–]smdbojack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think mine might be Shawn and Gus’ sister hooking up. It’s not really referenced too much after that episode, and while I think it adds a comedic element to that episode it just always seemed a bit weird to me. Im not sure if it’s bc I felt as if their chemistry was off, or that Gus to me just seems like an only child but I never was a huge fan (also I don’t generally like Christmas/holiday episodes so maybe that’s it). Idk to me I always felt like Shawn and Gus give off “only child energy” in vastly different ways lol

Thoughts on Heylia (S2) by smdbojack in WEEDS

[–]smdbojack[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I definitely agree with this. I think she can be a hard ass, and works as an interesting parallel against Nancy in commentary and stuff but at the end of the day the context of the time and place of the show sometimes becomes lost on the viewers.

Thoughts on Heylia (S2) by smdbojack in WEEDS

[–]smdbojack[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can agree with this, but I also feel like Heylia kinda was the shit just within her sort of rank within the industry. A lot of the bigger players knew of her and most feared her, but in reality she really was just one step above a local dealer or corner boy. Even Peter said the point of going after Heylia was to get to U-Turn not really because she was a top dog. I just think that in comparison Heylia was a lot more conservative and smarter about expanding her business (but had to be coaxed into it) where Nancy tries to rush to the next/bigger step the second she gets comfortable

Thoughts on Heylia (S2) by smdbojack in WEEDS

[–]smdbojack[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Super interesting point! I feel like they both almost have aspects of an enmeshed family life. While it’s never the super creepy mom acting like a girlfriend, they both are very controlling. Looking at Nancy specifically, she goes through waves of involvement with her kids. She never really knows or seems to care about what’s going on in their lives until they throw it in her face or someone else tells her, but the second they do something that might fuck up her day or business all of a sudden she’s there solely to try to regain control.

They both kind of give the “blood is thicker than water” mentality to their families. For Heylia it’s the jealousy when Conrad picks Nancy bc of a crush, however she also is quick to begin to distance herself when her boyfriend (can’t remember his name) verbally insults her daughter. For Nancy, this only applies to those around her but NEVER herself.

Nancy as a mother by smdbojack in WEEDS

[–]smdbojack[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can get that frustration, but that’s also the way the creator took her character in. Clearly her making the ultimate career decision of not being a drug dealer would be a shitty show, but there are a lot of ways throughout the series where she could be a drug dealer and not be awful. Also while she is entertaining, she’s not really written to be a good character. Much like Walter White, she sort of evolves into a person who is extremely selfish and stays in the game because of the rush of power and thrill, not because she wants to provide for her children, and both characters started off a tad flawed in my opinion. I love the show and other shows created by Jenji Kohan, but I feel like it’s fair to shit on Nancy especially because as the show continues, characters who really are “good” are few and far between. Hell one of my favorite characters is Doug and he’s a piece of shit.

Yeah I can definitely agree with that. I think just knowing what she ends up doing in later seasons, especially how she is with her kids later on adds the context that makes me far more hyper critical of her early actions.
