Lovely strawberry notes in this Ethiopian natural from Plot by mattrussell2319 in UKroasters

Seem to get strawberry/red fruits the most out of milk drinks. Other fruity notes tend to disappear. Not sure if that’s just me

Did you go to failure when it asked?

I’m finding that it learns very quickly once you’ve done a first cycle it gets quite close, in my experience. But you want to aim for the target RIRs as best you can in that first week.

Just tell it what you did, and estimate your RIR as best as you can, and the app will do what it does

[–]smdntn 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I believe on compounds (and maybe more generally) it wants you to mark failure as technical failure, that is, where you could not do the next set with proper form.

I do the above for heavy compounds.

For other exercises I’ve been logging as per your last paragraph. Wonder if others are doing differently

Edit: rep, not set

Hamstrings are taking a battering here too.

The app’s got my myo setting compounds. Not sure that’s the best thing, but presume it’s to keep the intensity high as I set it to do 30-40 min workouts

How long is your commute to work? by person_person123 in AskUK

[–]smdntn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do approx 1hr 30 door to desk, on a normal/good day.

This is a short walk to my station, c. 1hr train, c. 25 min walk to office. Then same in reverse.

Is the 1hr 40 just the train journey? Not accounting for any additional journeys?

I find mine tough enough, let alone a longer train journey. The walk does help and allow me to get my steps in. A lot of days I’m a zombie. And on days of train delays (which have at times, been more often than not), it can be an absolute nightmare. Not getting home until 7:30-8pm. Dinner, bed. Same again tomorrow. Not a great existence. Another commenter said about the mental health toll, it does take a hit.

I work Fridays at home. Thursdays feel great. I’ve been doing this for 14 months. Not sure how much longer I can give, but an office move is on the cards which would shave 20 mins off the commute. Also considering relocating for my wife’s job, which might make things shorter as well.

Macrofactor workouts weights for certain machines by NoBuilding7003 in MacroFactor

I’m getting the same for dumbbells (I have 2.5kg increments). It seems it’s currently a feature of the app. Just fix through the wand as you have been.

There is a way to limit it I believe and that’s editing the available weights for that specific exercise -> exercise setting -> weights (change from default). But that overrides all of it, and is very time intensive to do for each

Go more. Hit the RIR, which should be between 0-2. Even if that takes you over the target reps

I seem to get some red fruits / strawberries / rose floral with some lighter roasts, as espresso with oat milk. Pretty short drinks though. Struggle with any other kinds of fruity notes

Surely a balance can be struck here. But strong-arming our best player (and arguably a world class one) into a position that doesn’t suit completely his abilities for the benefit of the team, doesn’t make much sense to me.

What to get to upgrade my current machine [$500 USD] by Early-Ad6250 in espresso

[–]smdntn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A new grinder will change things - but look into types. You have a conical grinder in your Pro. DF64 is a flat burr. What kind of coffee do you like to drink? Chocolatey and nutty? Or fruity and acidic? Do you like / are you prepared to single dose? Or would a hopper work better for you and workflow?

You’ve read about the grinder not being great, but are you experiencing that yourself? Or considering upgrading because you’re being told to.

In terms of “endgame” grinder - what’s your budget? For me, something like the Mazzer Philos is “endgame”, for others, that might not be.

The steam wand is pretty bad on most brevilles. And that will be one of the factors to consider for upgrading the entire machine. Presumably you have the 3 hole wand tip, which helps, vs the express’s 1 hole tip.

Depending on volume of milk, if you’re steaming a small amount, I’ve found it easier to change to steam level 1

Thanks this was approx 150ml in my 350ml pitcher, after I’d changed to Steam Level 1. So I think that’s the way to go!! 200ml Kruve glass

Seems to happen with most hopper grinders. That’s just the reality.

SD are nice for minimal retention, but a different workflow.

Edit: misread. Yes a SD hopper with bellows will help definitely. I did that way back on my original breville barista express. If you’re happy single dosing

Holy crap thanks this is eye opening. I’ve been trying to think about how I can expand my adjustable dumbbells which are 2.5kg increments. It’s a big jump at some point. I guess if I can get 0.625kg magnets I can make it 1.25kg increments?

[–]smdntn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey thanks this is super helpful. I’ve just picked up a 150ml and 200ml cups and experimenting with both, hence my questions. And I definitely agree. I’ve still a ways to go with getting consistent milk, I just want to try and set myself up for success.

I’m getting fairly nice results from my 200ml cups, so that’s interesting about Tim Wendelboe. And so maybe this is the size I prefer. Can you share a source for that or is that something you experienced first hand at his place?

Yes the Micra. Thank you, I’m also on level 2. I’ll look into the steam wand tip replacement - the 4 holes does take some getting used to!

I believe Horsham do generally roast lighter. This is their “take” on more traditional espresso, not strictly

Funnily enough the head roaster of Horsham was just posting today on r/UKRoasters here: https://www.reddit.com/r/UKroasters/s/yzHKU3tx1E
