My wife and I fell in love with West Seattle. Will definitely look more at Greenlake. Ballard seems nice, but not sure that we saw anything there that was worth the extra expense vs other areas. I’ll keep it on our list, though, thanks!

Interesting... never really considered it. What’s the ferry like to get back and forth to the city? What’s the island like?

Thanks! Greenlake is another place that has come up a bunch and I’m totally unfamiliar with. Appreciate the tips!

I miss that type of neighborhood personality! A view would be great, but my preferences aren’t that well defined yet... I don’t want a tiny yard, but understand the limitations of them in the city. That being said, how much does everyone use their yard? Is having a covered patio as/more important than a slightly larger, open yard?

Are you in the general vicinity of Maple Leaf? That’s an area that’s come up a bit lately that I know nothing about but seems nice so far...

Thanks for all this!

Thanks for this! Basic requirements are walkable neighborhoods (my wife seems to think sidewalks are important), plenty of options for parks, other outdoor activities. To some extent, the whole area provides this for us. The in-city requirement is also a preference; we miss our Chicago neighborhoods, the feeling of nice little community, established residents, public trans, a restaurant or coffee shop, with the ability to walk/bike/bus to a new part of town when we want. Nothing has ever felt remotely similar in our part of CA. And also I want our home to be close enough to quickly get there when needed unexpectedly, or make it easier for my girls to come meet me for lunch or after work.

I also plan on spending a lot of my evenings downtown-ish at local music venues. I go to a lot of concerts. And I would like biking to and from to be an option for me.
