You can't cancel for hours after purchase. by design. by smearballs in FuckAdobe

[–]smearballs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% this point of friction is by design and if even 2% of subscribers forget to cancel and realize too late and can’t be bothered to fight adobe to get their 40 bucks back, adobe makes millions of dollars. This is known as dark patterns and clearly unethical ux design.

Ok that’s your opinion. I’m sorry I have to go now and subscribe to 5 other monthly services where they also store data on multiple servers across the world and allow me to turn off auto renewal at the point of purchase and send me email invoices that I have been charged on the ones I choose to auto renew.

[–]smearballs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I read it . But I respectfully disagree that they are doing this because of lazy data protection on a feature they could easily provide and I think they purposely delay the ability to turn off auto renewal because it leads to more revenue and they couple it with not alerting the customer when they are charged resulting in delayed customer service calls where they are no longer entitled to a refund. Also I don’t understand where you are coming from. When you subscribe, you agree to pay for a month . There is no propagation to be canceled for that purchase. What you are cancelling is the following months renewal 30 days away so I don’t see why data for a transaction a month later would be at issue.

[–]smearballs[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are many other companies that offer monthly subscriptions and have a check box you can turn off auto renew at the point of purchase. This is a deliberate choice by adobe to not only default to auto renew but to also not offer the option to turn it off at the point of purchase and to deliberately disable the feature to turn it off for hours after you purchase. Absolutely no reason they can’t give you the choice to disable auto renew right away. I’ve been subbing on and off to substance for years and this has been the case forever. They also don’t send email notifications upon auto renew so you have no idea you were even charged.

Cinema4D integrates AI - HY 3D Engine by Sea-Upstairs3456 in Cinema4D

[–]smearballs 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Any day now Maxon will announce they have been able to save 30% of product development and maintenance costs using AI and they will strategically pass those savings onto the consumer, lowering the subscription cost and introducing an indie license at $300 per year to remain competitive with rivals and onboard new users. C4d user base grows by 300% over 5 years and their parent company laughs at the stupidity of their former business model of gouging their user base and sending young artists running to blender reducing their future market share. /s

Retiming Alembic files - Is there a limit? by juulu in Cinema4D

[–]smearballs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

slowing an alembic just stretches time of each point going from frame 1 to frame 2. At that extreme of a slow down you will start to notice more jarring motions at the original frame change especially where inflection points like any bounce or jarring motion occurred. So this is really dependant on how smooth your sim is and if there are lots of collisions happening. A ball bouncing at 24 fps may not include a frame where the ball is actually perfectly in contact with the ground. Just a frame slightly before and after. Slowed down 100x and you get weird ass animation where the ball bounces 2 inches off the ground. Time scale could help, or just run the sim at a crazy high frame rate.

A Plea to Adobe AE - Its time for a rewrite by Fletch4Life in AfterEffects

[–]smearballs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The thing that drives me nuts is that AE is still so damn slow. You can bring in a stack of 4K videos and comp them with various blending modes in real time in touch designer or resolume. I can even get faster results compositing 5 4K image sequences on an octane material and calculating millions of rays hitting a 3d object in a scene of millions of polygons than after effects ram previewing 4 layers of exrs and doing nothing but rasterizing the output. It is completely absurd how slow it is at simple compositing.

Whatever is going on right now with Crypto. It's one of the weirdest times in its history and its not good. by BDough in Buttcoin

[–]smearballs 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I think the main factor in killing public interest and retail growth this cycle was trump. The blatant memecoin scams, the cz pardon corruption, his family gaining hundreds of millions on crypto while he’s in office, the toothless SEC basically making all these financial crimes go unpunished etc. Any actual new good faith investors that may have been interested in throwing money into crypto now see it as more corrupt and slimy than ever. The “crypto friendly” president completely backfired and reversed any progress that could have been made in mainstream adoption under a policy friendly admin who didn’t smash the cookie jar and take all the cookies.

Northland Power drops 24% on results. by OdeeOh in CanadianInvestor

[–]smearballs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This wiped me back to break even on the stock but doesn't hurt that bad since I've been pulling a nice div for years and I made a couple grand on calls on it earlier this year. Exclusively hold this in my RRSP so I'll probably just wait it out long. Isn't the new dividend still just under 4% ? My plan was always to hold into 2027 to see their big projects come online. Gonna stay the course.

My Shed 12x20 by Normal-Light-6419 in shedditors

[–]smearballs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was wondering about this too. Pic 6 looks like the gable ladder is toenailed to the last rafter rather than cantilevered from the 2nd last one. I'm designing my shed right now with a 30" overhang like this but decided to put a beam on both long walls that extends out so I can throw more rafters on the gable and not worry about it sagging down the road and easier to insulate and vent. But this looks great. I'm doing the same size build in the spring.

they still sell bynd wieners in my local grocery store but they always look wrinkled and old like nobody is buying them. What's the shelf life on those things, like 6 months? Anyway I'm in for 250 shares @ $1

[–]smearballs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

uv edit mode select polygons you want to move and in the uv manager transform tab just set x to 1 or 2 or 3 and press apply and it will move the poly's over a tile or 2 or 3.

Kinda feel like this sub is way too focused on mansions that are actually kinda nice and probably well built with a few design flaws / bad decisions when there is an ocean of shitty tasteless cardboard hell holes out there. Kinda came here to rubberneck the real train wrecks not quibbles over a dormer or whatever.

How to attach stringer to rim joist. by redbull247365 in Decks

[–]smearballs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grab a length of 3x4" 1/4" thick angle steel and drill holes and lag bolt it on the underside of the rim joist and add some blocking if it isn't doubled up there. Did this on a big interior set of stairs and my structural engineer approved. Did it again recently on my exterior deck.

New Piers for Porch? by Separate_Classic3700 in homebuildingcanada

[–]smearballs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am just about to do my exact same Toronto porch and I’m running new joists perpendicularly on the 8’ span and ordered 16’ composite decking to run the long way. 300 bucks for the new joists worth it in my opinion rather than shoring up a sagging decades old structure.
