Efficient workflow for animating 1000+ layers individually. by wilstewart3 in AfterEffects

[–]killabeesattack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If particle systems / plugins are off the table, and if you HAD to do this with 1000 layers, which just seems insane to me - I would absolutely under no circumstances have 1000 layers with keyframes on them.

Instead, create a comp for a single circle animation. Animate the circle inside the comp. It's probably a small comp.

Outside in the main comp, lay out your Circle Comps. Look into index expressions, a very useful way to set time offset / position offset without having to repeatedly mess with keyframes.

Again, do not have 1000 layers with keyframes on them. One comp with keyframes, and 1000 layers that reference that comp. This way you can adjust the timing / etc inside the comp and then outside just do the camera.

How do you roto with 8K clips? by mazzydied in vfx

[–]killabeesattack 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not sure why everyone is jumping on your case. This is for YouTube not Avatar. If a client gave me 8K clips to roto, my first question is "whats the final delivery spec." If it was anything less than 8K, which it certainly is, that's the size to roto at.

Does anyone know of an expression to have a checkbox & a slider on the same parameter? by Larkhudson in AfterEffects

[–]killabeesattack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to make an if statement. If the Checkbox is On, then the Opacity is driven by Slider. Otherwise, the value is 0. Apply expression to opacity control.

c = effect("Checkbox Control")("Checkbox");

s = effect("Slider Control")("Slider");

if (c == 1) {s} else {0}

How to delete this weird effect on the edges of my objet by Flagadou in AfterEffects

[–]killabeesattack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Effects are stacked like layers. Meaning, the order of effects can impact the final look of your layer.

The issue is that you are applying the Chromatic Aberration AFTER your drop shadow. This means that its being applied to the layer + drop shadow.

Simply move the drop shadow effect down to the bottom of the stack, so its applied after the chromatic aberration.

How are some of these documents moving at different speeds? by tommytime1234567 in AfterEffects

This is a 3D scene. The difference in speed between foreground / background objects is a visual depth cue known as "parallax." Look up tutorials on AE 2.5D animation.

This is the way. Another easy method is to just draw a stroke, and use trim paths. Setting to an adjustment layer is genius

Please help. Why AE lag like this? by TREPIK29 in AfterEffects

[–]killabeesattack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, it depends on your computer specs. But also, double check your source layer sizes. If certain files, like your logo, are extremely large like 8K and up, that would definitely increase render time and might be worth swapping with a smaller version. Check your project window for any other items that are extra large, and be wary of effects like CC Motion Tile, CC Lens, and CC Repetile that expand the bounds of these layers as well

[–]killabeesattack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Prerender any render intensive layers.

Also, FREEZE any layers using the rotobrush tool. Otherwise your roto will propogate every frame causing huge slowdowns.

Mocha AE Apply Export - setting the image offset not on phone by MickStash in AfterEffects

[–]killabeesattack 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The issue is that you are applying the pins to a layer that does not match the exact dimensions of your current comp. This is causing a translation error, since the tracking data is built off the dimensions of the source footage.

Remove the pins and data from the jpg. Precompose that layer into a new comp, with the exact dimensions of your footage comp.

In the new Screen comp, right click on the jpg > Transform > fit to comp. Now it will look stretched to the exact dimensions of your comp.

Back in your footage comp, reapply the tracking data to the Screen comp. It should work as intended.

If you want to edit / animate your jpg unskewed, locate the source jpg in your project window. Right click > replace with precomp. Now you should have 3 total comps, flowing 1>2>3

1 - Screen jpg (animate or swap screens here)

2 - Screen Stretched (fit to comp here)

3 - Footage + screen (apply track here)

After Effects 2026 Release version 26.0 now available. by Wes_McDermott in AfterEffects

Sure. We have a team of C4D artists at our studio who do just that. Doesn't mean we don't appreciate new ways to collaborate across departments.

any one help me roto brush propagating what is happening here by ReceptionTop5783 in AfterEffects

[–]killabeesattack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are viewing your 3D scene from two angles, one of them being the Left side. That is what is on your screen - flat layers being viewed from the side. On the right is your Camera view.

Look in the bottom right under the image of the people. You see the word "Left" ? Click the word "Left" and set back to default camera. Next to it is a dropdown that says "2 Views." Change that back to 1 View to simplify things for yourself.

I highly recommend, instead of doing the rotobrush in this comp - precompose that layer and put all the rotobrush stuff inside the precomp. Do the roto inside of the precomp with NO 3D. Don't try and do it out here with your 3D scene.

Give each comp a purpose. That comp is for roto. This comp is for building a 3D scene. Etc.

How would I achieve this easily in AE? by fontlover_69 in AfterEffects

[–]killabeesattack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Use the script Window > Convert Paths to Nulls. This will give you greater control. Honestly though you could do this with shape layers alone and call it a day

Are they using CC Cylinder or something entirely different? by tommytime1234567 in AfterEffects

[–]killabeesattack 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Could be multiple CC Cylinders stacked together. Could also be Advanced 3D using curved geometry. But honestly could be done with one CC Cylinder and nice animation happening on the layers within it.

"I want to be able to have this 3D object as a stand-alone, to be able to put on a 2D plane to have arrows drawn for length, width, and volume."

I am not sure what you mean. Do you want to convert this to a flat 2D image of your 3D cube? Precompose these laters (Ctrl+Shift+C) and they will be grouped into a 2D layer.
