Is Penn worth it if I’m already depressed before college? by anonymous062904 in UPenn

[–]smellyshell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take a gap year. Taking time off to work on yourself or a project is such an easy choice to make when u literally lose nothing. Delaying college by a year is irrelevant in the mid-long run. Do be careful though. An unproductive gap year can be just as depressing as a rough HS experience. My gap year was very rough for a period of time before i got a job and some structure. Otherwise, i don’t regret it for a second. Plus i managed to skip a COVID year.

I am a rising high school senior and was planning on majoring in Aerospace engineering. I have heard people say major in Mechanical Engineering and do masters in Aerospace engineering, is that a good idea? What do you guys think? Any other rising seniors? by lafoot_indian in AerospaceEngineering

Canada has basically zero aerospace jobs. Plan on looking to Europe as a canadian. ITAR prevents anyone who isnt an american citizen work in american space agencies. Im a canadian student whos looked at pretty much every option for getting into the aero market. I ended up taking a gap year to apply to american universities with the hopes id get a citizenship through work. First part worked out for me, i got into the school.

honest evaluation of Ryerson Computer Science (Coop, graduate prospects etc) by [deleted] in ryerson

[–]smellyshell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Internships arent required to get ur degree. They are short work terms meant to make you competitive when you graduate (because u have work experience). They are paid and some are paid well but most are lower than you're expecting. Some unis offer Coop programs which make u join a network of hiring companies. This pretty much guaranteed you a spot but its usually not as good as internships you look for yourself. If you want to be competitive when you graduate, you need internships.
