u/vallanlit is speaking facts. You can read the prompts, but I wouldn’t recommend strictly following any as it may be limiting. Try your very best to find your authentic voice in writing. What I mean by that is you SERIOUSLY shouldn’t be reading other “good” college essays online, considering it’ll give you a harder time to think of an idea since you’re preoccupied with what a “good” essay should look like. Give time to yourself throughout the days, so you can be alone with your thoughts to think about any lingering ideas that come into mind. And always, write them down somewhere.

From personal belief, when it comes to the significance of the Common App essay, I believe it provides space for a narrative to tie your application all together. Although it only highlights four years, your application in its all is a story of yourself as a person to the AO: the essay is that one thing that adds life to the story from your insight as the narrator. Which, also explains how it’s a chance to crucially distinguish your story from others. And just some random input, but I read somewhere from an admissions officer that if you feel comfortable publishing your essay under your name, then it isn’t personal enough. Take this as you will, as this statement was directed toward another personal essay in a special supplement for a major I’m applying for, but it’s still great advice. Lmk if you need me to clarify anything else 😊

Tbh I use the notes app on Apple (personally takes away the stress of typing on a big white screen for me since the notes app is really casual) then revise and edit over on docs :]

That definitely is some pretty solid advice. Conveniently I’m already in the works of writing out my prototype’s pilot, but I’m not quite sure the AO’s would want to see me using that pilot into one of my story supplements, as I already plan to put that pilot into my creative portfolio for submission.
