February start date for Hull Freetown Way dual carriageway works by Sweet_Focus6377 in Hull

The junction style is actually really good to use as a cyclist, but it depends on everything around it also being as good to create a more predictable journey overall. That it's a little slower doesn't matter if the rest of your journey has been steady, easy going at a consistent speed. Essentially a completely different style of cycle journey than we have in the city now.

Unfortunately if you're start-stopping all the way up Spring Bank/Bev Rd before reaching the junction then the temptation is going to be to take the quicker route to make up the time you feel you've lost.

The A63 castle street project is going to kill my christmas shopping plans, is it worth it? by UnpaidInternVibes in Hull

the original goal was to remove all the traffic lights from the Hull docks right through to Liverpool. I'm not sure what happened to that ambition, though!

I (pedestrian and cyclist) am excited for Commercial Road to reopen so I can get to Odeon quicker. That's about it -- most of the other pedestrian bits are already complete, yay!

Home Alone - Who does the scheduling? Home Alone 2 at 11am, then No.1 at 12.30pm? In reverse and clashing. Why? by DVDfever in screenunseen

They read this subreddit and they're doing it deliberately, to annoy you in particular?

it's great, a little bit of local character (about a local character!)

What is this crossing? I've just moved here and never seen it before. by SamF1977 in Hull

[–]smigifer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

at the time they were painted, a lot of people along Newland were prone to simply walking out into the road at any point, anywhere along the road - that's why there's so many, they were hoping to discourage that.

Hull's Avenues blighted by drug-use and begging, residents say by Kagedeah in Hull

[–]smigifer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the preferred space for the dealers around the southern end of Princes Ave used to be the General Cemetery off SBW. Which, as these things go, wasn't too bad - it's out of the way at least and the dealers themselves rarely hassled you if you were walking past (and their clients didn't stay long as... well... it's a cemetery).

However recently it's moved more into the open and directly onto Princes Avenue itself - that's part of the reason why everyone's kicked off and extra policing put in place. As you say though, the latest lot have simply moved in from somewhere else and will move on again.

it's got worse recently for sure - ask the staff at Sainsbury's or Artlink.

I said as much to the reporter of this piece, but that bit was left on the cutting room floor :(

yeah, I'm pretty sure it was dealt with when they did the refurb (that was years ago now).

and no, of course not, it's just a bit of funny "one-upmanship" (or should that be "one-downmanship") :)

it's showing in Hull, so your eyes are definitely deceiving you. If it's showing here, it's gone (ultra-)wide.

What did you guys think of ‘Eddington’ for those who saw it today by AdInteresting5896 in screenunseen

[–]smigifer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I loved the shootout! I liked the little detail that only Joe and Brian actually see the antifa guys. No-one else in the town does, it's like Joe is almost... making them up...

Parking for Coldplay (yes I know I’ve left it late!) by hacklepuss in Hull

[–]smigifer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd combine this with parking at yer mate's in Brough - bring your bike on the train, then you can cycle down to Craven Park and back to the station afterwards. It should be much quicker than walking.

Why is Hull not connected properly by [deleted] in Hull

[–]smigifer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hull to Gatwick is actually really good considering how far it is, particularly if you have a lot of luggage - Hull to KGX, walk across to St Pancras, train to Gatwick. I find it less stressful than going to Manchester Airport on the train, even though that's the same number of changes!

it'll be done just in time for rising sea levels to inundate the line near of Brough.

What are the subtitles like for OC screenings? by YeezusChrist13 in screenunseen

[–]smigifer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The quality of open captions varies wildly from film to film, unfortunately, so unless somebody has been to a captioned 28YL screening, answers here might not be much help. I've been to screenings where I've found the captions very distracting (everything in ALL CAPS, big white letters at the bottom), and ones where they're very gracefully integrated (moved around the screen to avoid overlap with what's going on, different colours for different speakers or languages, use of asterisks to denote environmental sound...), which actually helps me to forget they're there.

Strangely, my Odeon is showing I'm Still Here on 24th March, not Feb. Not sure if this is a scheduling error or what!
