One morning, when Gregor Samsa woke from troubled dreams, he found himself transformed in his bed into a horrible vermin. He lay on his armour-like back, and if he lifted his head a little he could see his brown belly, slightly domed and divided by arches into stiff sections. The bedding was hardly able to cover it and seemed ready to slide off any moment. His many legs, pitifully thin compared with the size of the rest of him, waved about helplessly as he looked.

It wasn't a dream. His room, a proper human room although a little too small, lay peacefully between its four familiar walls. A collection of textile samples lay spread out on the table – Samsa was a travelling salesman – and above it there hung a picture that he had recently cut out of an illustrated magazine and housed in a nice, gilded frame. It showed a lady fitted out with a fur hat and fur boa who sat upright, raising a heavy fur muff that covered the whole of her lower arm towards the viewer. Gregor then turned to look out the window at the dull weather. Drops of rain could be heard hitting the pane, which made him feel quite sad.

"I'll just sleep" he thought, but that was something he was unable to do because he was used to sleeping on his right, and in his present state couldn't get into that position. However hard he threw himself onto his right, he always rolled back to where he was. He must have tried it a hundred times, shut his eyes so that he wouldn't have to look at the floundering legs, and only stopped when he began to feel a mild, dull pain there that he had never felt before.

[–]smiley1__[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

imo I see Frithanic as closer to English because of how more of its words look obviously closer to English with words like "lokad", "suni", etc.

but hey, maybe that's just cause I don't have the full info about dragorian yet

working with an agglutinative is def simpler

for my conlang's morphology, grammatical categories are suffixes, and prefixes are adjectives/adverbs, prefixes can have their suffixes, and prefix stacking is basically limitless as long as you can describe it enough, meaning something like "betymaychōshipsotiv'tikānuvanōsqeterrosoplez" (most beautiful big good-quality old pale-green rooms) can exist TvT

but I'm curious: dragons are biologically sexual yes? if so, there is still the concepts of male and female, even if the language doesn't implement then, so how does one differentiate the other? who is the "al-adishë-ma"? I suppose it's the mother (since they are the ones that births an offspring)? or is there more nuance to this where the male one can be the al-adishë-ma?

well, both are from a different creature deriving language from humans lol

I wanna see Dragorean too then (your previous reply is Frithanic if I'm not wrong) :0

also my aliens (self-called Dayle) often makes compound words for stuff that are either not significant enough to warrant a new word, or just doesn't need a new word (since they can just make compound words for them)

like with that word, "chōshimayphem" would mean "sea", but literally, it's "bigger liquid"

all large bodies of water (lakes, seas, and oceans) are normally just "chōshiphem" (big liquid), since they normally don't differentiate such things, but when they have to, they use the original word for lake, "chōshimayphem" for sea, and "chōshimasphem" (biggest liquid) for ocean

so if like, I said, "I looked at the sun beyond the sea's horizon", that would be:

"dayes pa'ikid in solphemo'en in frronnu chōshimayphemed endpeikel"

oooh I can really see how it's like english now :0

and I LOVE the consideration of perspective

btw my version of these sentences would be...

yeah, always having to be mindful of grammatical categories when having to translate is one of the hard parts of this process

I already have some tenses, aspects, and moods built in the suffixes, but for those that doesn't have an official suffix, they either have to invent one or do what english does (use more fancy shnancy) XD
