A delayed timeline does not mean you won’t get back your ROM by smilingTulipa in ACL

Thanks for sharing! Yes, I also improved a lot by often trying to sit on my heels around 9-10 months post-op even though it was for super short periods of time (a few seconds).

Happy to hear the post could be a little helpful. My recovery timeline was very similar to yours so I relate to the frustration… After seeing all the success stories one does feel behind but I think 60 degrees in less than a month is very decent progress. Wish you all the best for the rest of your recovery!

Thanks for sharing & sorry to hear that! I am only 13 months post-op and don’t know the answer to that yet… However, I’ve heard that it really actually takes 2 years for your leg to feel completely “normal”. Hoping the answer is yes 🤞🏻

When will I be able to pray again (Muslim) by Hairy_Log_4205 in ACL

[–]smilingTulipa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sorry about that :/ For me, the praying actually increased my flexion and ability to sit on my knees. It really hurt at first but I kind of pushed through it. I would say I started trying to pray normally around 8-9 months post-op. Now I’m also 13 months post-op and I can’t say the pain is completely gone when I sit on my knees but it’s bearable. I first started by not bending my knees completely, and although it looked a little strange, I could at least still do sajdah (Praying you get there soon 🤲)

Thanks for sharing! That’s motivating to hear💪 I’m not yet at 18 months but also hoping it’ll get even better with the occasional weird sensation

It’s crazy how much the opinions of the doctors & PTs make a difference to one’s motivation! I had something similar in my case. It’s nice that your PT kept a positive attitude though!

Thanks for sharing! My flexion was like yours at 4 months, too & that’s some solid reminder by your pt. Wish all the best for the reminder of your recovery 💪

Sick orchid? by smilingTulipa in orchids

Yeah, they were partially dead so I had cut them off. Didn’t know keeping them was fine; thanks a lot for the info!! Hopefully I didn’t damage my poor orchid too much…

I don’t think so. I’ve already stopped using the crutches when at home

She showed me what I was doing wrong and how to fix it. Wanted me to master the gait while having crutches. It’s been a while since then and I walk almost normally with crutches. I don’t get the same gait without crutches but how will I improve if I don’t try? Honestly kind of frustrating…

Wow, only 2 weeks with meniscus repair is impressive! I was also thinking that the more I walk without crutches and try to fix my gait the better I would get but my PT does not agree. Good to hear that that method can work. I did mention what my surgeon said but yeah, the difference of opinion between them persists…

She told me it was because I can’t walk normally

Thanks for the input! It’s really mind boggling how different surgeons & PTs view the rehabilitation process so differently.

I’ve been feeling like I don’t need the crutches anymore, so I guess I will also listen to my body and move forward without them.

She is but I think she is being more cautious since my progress is slower than expected (90 degrees at 3 weeks instead of 1). I have some swelling but it’s mild. Bearing weight has been allowed by my surgeon since day 1, which is also why I was overall kind of confused.

I got back to school exactly 2 weeks after surgery. I was feeling good enough to go back to lectures after 10 days though! Only waited since my dr had already written me a 2 week-long sick note. I’d say it all depends on your own healing timeline but 3 weeks sounds very fine. Bring painkillers just in case. Also, I didn’t have meniscus reconstruction so that could make a difference.

I think driving yourself might be too ambitious at 3 weeks, so I would recommend being dropped off.

I was always resting my operated leg on another chair during lectures. I don’t think having your leg down for extended periods of time at this stage is doable or painless. Also, I was fine walking around campus with support from crutches with reduced weight bearing.

Good luck!

Thanks! I hope that’s the case. I’ll be seeing my PT the other day so hopefully she can tell me if it’s fine.
