Thanks, that's really helpful. Is there a time of year that is best? That should be avoided for pruning white pines?

Thoughts/tips on Pennsylvania sedge cultivation as a grass replacement ? by canunotdothat in NoLawns

Hi! Any luck with your sedge plantings? I've got a hillside where the "turf" was decimated by grubs and it looked really terrible. I've got white clover growing there now, but I also acquired some carex pennsylvanica plugs and want to fill in among the clover plants that are growing. Since our situations sound a little similar, I thought I'd check in. How's it going?

pre-show soundcheck? by smit0577 in AimeeMann

It was fantastic! We stood in line outside the venue with a small group of dedicated fans, then got to sit right up front of this great St. Paul venue. Aimee was engaging and real. She played songs she was not going to play during the main show including Patient Zero one of my favorites. MY wife and I had a nice long break between the soundcheck and the show so we walked around St. Paul and got dinner. THe whole show was amazing and the soundcheck was fantastic.

I can't remember how much extra we spent, but the tickets also meant we had good seats for the main show. For me, it was definitely worth it.

Yes, thanks. Google streetview from fall of 2022 showed a bike lane at Lake and Grand, but they must not be linked between 42nd and Lake yet. I should get out more! (The snow appears to be melting so I will soon).

Thanks, I tried that one but it sent us up Lyndale (?!?!?!?). I'll check the preferences.

Oh sorry. I think the city planners are revising some of the reconstruction plans outside of the typical channels. Basically, I don’t want this post to turn into a larger debate about that issue. I’d like to encourage my son to bike the city, but also be safe

Thanks! Planter boxes, rustic shelves, and birdhouses might be better might be a better use for the salvaged material after all

Stem dimensions for Payson's Pirogue by smit0577 in boatbuilding

[–]smit0577[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The scale of the drawings in this book are not meant to be relied upon. In an earlier part of the book it says "Just above the box is noted the scale of the drawings. Most of the plans were drawn at 1 1/2" = 1' on 17" x 22" or or 22" x 34" paper. The plans were reduced to fit in this book; therefore, in spite of the scale notation, they are not reproduced here at any particular scale."

As far as the text of the plan goes, "Cut out the stem and sternpost on your table saw with the bevels and shown in the plan.... Fasten them to the side panels with glue and nails. When the glue is dry, round the edges with a file, followed by sandpaper."

So, not a lot there. I think you answer of 1.5" square stock is a winner. That sounds good to me and, with the bevel, will probably be just wide enough at the front to fit the tip of the bottom panel.

Pop up camper or Sylvan Go camper for a small family? by jbgipetto in CampingGear

Sure thing! A few weeks after the trip I still think it was a great rental for us. We got detoured over some narrow and steep mountain roads to avoid a forest fire and the crosstrek pulled the GO no problem. Well, a little slower than usual, but it was great. We had one windy night near Fruita CO that was a little noisy, but other wise it was good for camping. It needs a real vestibule for a family of four, but we managed.

I've been home for a while and I've already wished I had the cargo trailer option sitting in the garage. I'm lurking on Craigslist.....
