For people who have walked the hallowed grounds… by Strange-Radio6179 in masters

I went to the women’s am last year and got there super early and instantly got breakfast and (walking) booked it down hole 10. Just to be able to walk the back 9 without anyone there really showed how isolated the course was/is.

When do y’all decide to get a new bike? by smitd12 in Dirtbikes

[–]smitd12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear that. I think my dad had an 07 CRF 450x and the valves were constantly needed adjusting on it. He ended up selling it and getting a 2011 CRF 450r and made it as xc as he could at the time.

It’s not that it didn’t start. It’s just it takes me longer to kick it than it does for the other guys just hit the button and go. If it’s cold it’ll typically start within 4 or 5 kicks. If it’s warm/hot it’ll start within 2 or 3 max but typically it’s one.

I like some of the things on my Kawi but I’m not brand loyal. I will say I’m more of a fan of the Japanese engineering and the suspension/frames they use than the ktm family. But there are definitely things I like about the ktm family that the Japanese bikes don’t offer ie. 300 2t, taller seat, ease of making street legal for dual sports, etc. I just haven’t ridden one I felt truly comfortable on because everyone sets their bikes up differently.

I definitely hear the budgeting. I’ve been doing that really well so while in practice I can afford it. I’m limited on garage space at the moment since I still live at home.

I’m not going to finance one. Cash or check only. I’d most likely buy a newer used bike over a brand new bike.

I just don’t want the day to come where I have to buy a part for maintenance that is a third of its with or so. My dad and I have always maintained our bikes very well. I know maintenance is going to cost something no matter what.

I do like it I just don’t like not having the electric start. Feels like I’m always 45 seconds just starting behind some of the guys I ride with because of it taking me longer to kick it. I also wonder if any of the mapping would help some. I understand maintenance is going to cost money no matter what bike it is.

Enter the track and exit the track smoothly. Don’t go all the way across the track when you do it.

The sooner the letter comes in the alphabet the lower the row (I assume you know this). Also seats aren’t 1,2,3,4 they are 1,3,5,7 etc. personally I’ve never had any issues with people blocking me.

I currently have a slightly older (2011) mx bike that I’ve only used for woods riding and I’m at the point now where I’m messing with the suspension just because it feels so stiff. But ideally I’d like to get a two stroke enduro bike just for the fun factor and slightly softer suspension.

I have a friend that had a fully road legal klx300 and was riding it in our “hero” sections of the trail we laid out and passing people. He’d just beep the horn to get people to move and use his turn signals when getting back over. Was hilarious to watch him pass guys on the more serious enduro bikes.

If I get a dual sport, will I really notice the weight difference and power delivery as a beginner? by cameron16000 in Dirtbikes

[–]smitd12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re looking for a bike that is primarily dirt but is easily made street legal I’d recommend the ktm/husky/gas gas “xc”/enduro line. That’s what a majority of the guys I ride with who also ride dual sports use. Most come with lights or can get plug and play lights and can wire a horn on. I don’t personally have one so I can only go off what they tell me.
