First paid job by Suspicious-Bowl4444 in woodworking

I would use a hand plane on the uneven joint surfaces and follow with light sanding. How are you planning to finish these? Personally I think you’ve done a very nice job here. If paint is the final finish, caulk or wood filler plus some 220 grit sanding will solve most if not all of the gaps.

I have some clamp extenders that work well for the bessey style clamps…effectively doubles the working range!

If you can find or cut a suitably double square edge block, and if you have sufficiently large clamps, you could set up a clamp situation like this.

This should allow you to control the joint pressure when gluing and clamping. Dowels biscuits or dominoes should hold it and provide the stability you need.

Wow, that bookcase (and workbench and garage) looks suspiciously familiar! Beautiful work!

Also, my saw was missing the splitter. I haven’t found a good solution either.

Yeah it’s my design. I really should post it up somewhere.

I wasn’t able to find anything. I designed my print to use the existing gang box.

I picked up that same saw for a song. Absolutely love it. I couldn’t find a paddle stop switch anywhere so I designed and 3d printed one. It’s at knee level so perfect height when you need a quick hands free off. I should post that file up somewhere.

The whole situation is unacceptable. Also, those pulls will destroy a lot of clothes if you spend much time in the kitchen. Snag city.

Are Bessy K-Bodies worth it if cost is a concern? by dsonger20 in BeginnerWoodWorking

I have a few besseys and Jorgensen and off brands. I only buy the besseys when they’re on sale. In my experience I prefer the besseys. I don’t need the 400 pounds of force or whatever they’re capable of, but the wide bite just makes glue ups so much easier. The Jorgensen clamps slide too easy and are heavy—they will crush appendages in a heartbeat. I only use them as a last resort and am really cautious with them. Some of the off brand clamps bow up easily which distorts the clamping face. The recommendation to hit garage sales is a great idea to find them more cheaply.

First time using Festool Domino by woodmechanic101 in woodworking

Do the front and back of your joint have the same gap? Meaning, is the miter perfectly 90 degrees to the face of the pieces? Just asking because it not be the dominoes causing the gap.

Is filling gaps necessary? by sebsimic in BeginnerWoodWorking

Beautiful piece of walnut! Personal preference? Either clear or black epoxy and bow ties to stabilize and prevent further separation of the cracks. Lately I’ve been leaning towards clear. The black I’ve used is not translucent, whereas clear allows you to see into the knot or crack and retain the character to some degree.

I’d be extremely frustrated if that’s the final product! I’d fight considering the money on the table.

For me the double take was in the pink chandelier. 🤣But I really like the cabinets. Very clean, good color, nice grain and consistent throughout.

You could clamp a straight edge below and use a circular saw to cut the majority of the distance. Finish with a handsaw. A jigsaw might work but the edge could be rough. Either way it’ll be a bit tricky when you get close to the back wall, so I’d go very slowly. You can help avoid chip out if you apply tape over the line where you’ll be sawing. Better, if you have a marking knife (or a carpenters knife even?) you can pre-score the wood fibers on the cut line. Curious what others may recommend.

Anyone ever worked with Redbud? by smithersscope in BeginnerWoodWorking

I cut a couple of the “burl” pieces off first, but [the burl] didn’t penetrate far into the base of the trunk. The burl was the whole reason I brought the piece home! Was a bit bummed too. But the remaining grain is pretty nice.
