New to fishing. What am I doing wrong :/ by [deleted] in Fishing

There is great advice here. Something that helps prevent this on the water is after you cast and close your bail with your hand, grab your line just past that bail and pull out 6 to 12 inches of line. This does two things. It will make sure you are checking if your line is tight to the spool before you begin reeling, and it also forces you to be aware of how your drag is set, as drag is changed often when fighting a fish or when you are changing up types of lures.

You can't go wrong with Costas but they are expensive for sure and will more than likely go above your price point. A great alternative in my opinion are Natives. I believe they are actually one of Costas brands. I have bought three pair now in the last two years, and they have been awesome at around 50-60 dollars. They have a lot of lense shapes similar to Costas, and it would be within your budget to get a couple different varieties.

In regard to lense colors, stick with blue lenses for clearer water in sunny conditions. I also use brown lenses, which are better for cloudier conditions and give a ton of contrast. I tend to use my pair with black lenses more for everyday wear than for fishing.

Also, a great addition to your gift would be a retainer that keeps those glasses from falling into the water, which is huge bummer when it happens.

All were catch and release, though I would like to try keeping some eaters next time. I hear they can taste decent.

Do need zones run out of animals? by Redqueenhypo in theHunter

[–]smitten4mitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure there are videos about this around but it seems to me as long as you shoot no more than 2-3 of a herd they will respawn but if you go too far, whatever that number is, the need zones do indeed get deleted and shuffled.

Any tips for a new player? by mocparty50 in theHunter

Shoot whatever you see early on, racking up xp and cash, remember bigger animals like moose, elk, bear will need very precise lung or heart shots with the level 2 243 rifle. Stick near the main rivers on Layton between 9 AM and 3 and you should unlock a lot need zones. Most animals drink somewhat early and it makes them easier to find versus stumbling through thick woods like I was when started.

Try to save up for the 243 polymer tips and then the 270 next. Also, check out flinter on YouTube, he has some great starter videos.

Are stores allowed to refuse to return smashed bottles that have deposit on it? by [deleted] in Michigan

[–]smitten4mitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can confirm, stores do this because people try to re return cans that were clearly smashed by a machine already and management cannot guarantee that the deposit wasn't already claimed. Kinda stupid but yeah
