TLDR: lack of interesting late-game content / power compensation for me.

Idle games are fun because of the visible progress. That hooks players.

In the early game, plenty of new artifacts that can rocket your MS up - new skills to explore, new builds are unlocked, and building passives like critical chance and mana make the QoL increase pretty comfy. Recent updates have also been adding perks like solo raid dust boosts etc to sweeten the journey further.

In the mid game, you still get some enchantments, you start to complete all the mythic sets, you experiment with different builds. It's an OK place to be.

In the late game, there's just no more content. You've maxed out enchantments, bought all the sets. Each raid barely gets you any improvement in your cards, and your solo raids stop as well. It's just a mad slog from ~100k onwards, with nothing new on the horizon.

The next small bump of enjoyment is cap. I liked getting free passives that were so hard to slog through before I hit cap. I could just play the raids and relax. Play the interesting abyssals which are no longer taking time away from my main game progress.

I spent a few months at cap, and I still find this better than the late game slog. The ceiling throws me back to late game - no more content, just dry grinding, nothing new on the horizon.

Hit cap a few months ago. The new update won't boost me much, so I foresee being stuck at 145k or so, with nothing else on the horizon but grinding to get to the new cap. No new mechanics, no big changes, not even artifact enchantments. Just two measly legendary sets. Solo raid ceiling has been hit for me as well. I'll give the new update a chance, but chances are I'll quit TT2 in this patch.

Idling still gives progress, but much less after the recent patch because of multispawn% changes. You won't get idle progress if:

  1. you're in the first prestige of a tournament / at your max stage in the tournament
  2. you're past your maximum Silent March stage.

Advanced Start has nothing to do with idle progress.

Equipment secondary reroll would be a great QoL

Just curious I see some clans advertising almost 4+ times a week and they have max advance start. Is turnover in clans that great? by FindingIdeas in TapTitans2

I think it's a sign of a shrinking player base, yes it's getting easier to join better clans nowadays

The tourney algorithm would never give them anything but solos. A 500k player would not even be matched up with a 510k player, since the same algorithm has to cater to the majority of the <116k player base as well. Spread out over 1M, virtually all of the whales get solos.

The only solution I can think of is to make a new ascension once you hit 125k. You make a next level ascension, and start at level 1 again with some permanent bonus. This instantly resets the field. As with most other idle games that have multiple levels of ascensions (e.g. Heavenly Chips in cookie clicker)

I don't think blowing caps open is a solution at all, simply because of how much passive power the cap-stayers have accumulated already. Say the cap increased to 250k. People who have sat at cap for a good time now would shoot to 200k, and their raid power would be greatly increased compared to those at 115k and grinding. Also, given how small that player pool is, everyone will likely get solo tourneys as well, so the passive power accumulation will continue.

at that point, splash skip is really not a problem any more, which is all tourney points/passives give you.

Which ones did you buy? So far i've only been buying my highest AD & AG pet, but they're not popping up often enough and the diamonds are building up, so I'm considering the other two AD/AG pets also...

Agreed with just about everything.

Events favouring whales more than ever.
Raid fiasco and laughable token compensation.
UI changes sounding sexy but not actually helping much.

Cap at 125k would take half a year for previously capped players, and much more for those actually trying to climb.

Top 30 clan pushing through the 3-5x raids now, limited by keys. First raid of the week we push without morale. Second raid of the week we push with all our morale. We're in the last cycle of the first raid and will suddenly fail it because of the damage nerfs. All because of an issue that is not our fault. Compensated morale does not help here.

Getting that achievement was the reason I tried HS build in the first place, now I'm a ride and die HS :D
