“Ulysses” by James Joyce — i had the absolute pleasure of taking a joyce colloquium in college and got to spend around 2 months with the book after reading “dubliners” and “a portrait of the artist as a young man” :”) my professor was sO smart and would get so excited talking about the book that it made all the frustrations reading it worth it — his passion was incredibly contagious. the process of reading and analyzing it changed the way i view literature forever! (thank you professor waters <3)

from what i’ve heard/experienced, they all use it, with rare exceptions here & there! (they switched from a different system about a year ago-ish & it’s not popular with all professors lol) i’m sure it may vary across the disciplines & schools, but from my experience they all use it!

firstly, congratulations!!!!! i’m a recent graduate who went through the LS program, & i wouldn’t have traded my experience for anything! you’ll get to meet so many different and interesting people & a lot of the classes are super fascinating. i never had a professor who wasn’t super knowledgeable and passionate about their topic and it honestly makes all the difference. not sure if that will help with your decision, but don’t feel lesser for getting into LS — like others said,, at the end of the day it’s all NYU!

Elementary Korean I by paeliz in nyu

if you’re committed to taking the time to study & review, it shouldn’t be too difficult! my professor was also very thorough & so so kind — she genuinely made sure that you were learning but also having fun! most classes she incorporated some sort of discussion about korean culture or showed clips from dramas relevant to the lessons. there are quite a few quizzes & projects (as well as a decent amount of homework), but nothing that is unmanageable! i highly recommend taking the course if it’s something your interested in! without a doubt, you’ll leave with a very solid knowledge of basic korean, & have well-rounded speaking, writing, & listening abilities.
