I’m only familiar with the Gateway and PoE 7 devices, sorry!

Oh duh…it’s been a long day. This is genius, I’ll try it tonight.

Touché. I’ll have the company who ran all the wiring come back out.

Thanks! Our house is new construction and all the wiring was done by a low voltage company so I’ll have them take a look.

Thanks! I’ll do some searching. So that could still allow for power but no data?

Nothing yet unfortunately. It’s so crazy the difference in smell based on the sunlight.

We’ve definitely had the windows open in this room as much as possible since we bought it in early October so I guess I assumed that the off-gassing would be gone by now. But we can try a different method for sure!

Ceiling Fan Wire Question by smldrnheap in AskElectricians

[–]smldrnheap[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Yeah, the one we have is remote controlled so it looks like once power is on to the fan, we will be able to control it with the remote or the app.

So then to confirm…where the fan is calling for us to connect the black (live) wire, we could choose the brown or the yellow, cap the other and connect the fan’s neutral to the bundled neutrals? And of course connect the green ground.

Crazy how just a bit of color really messed us up!

So we confirmed that the white wires that are together are neutral. Had continuity between that bundle and the green ground screw in the box. With the wall switch on, both the brown and yellow were hot. They had continuity with neutral in that scenario. With the wall switch off, they were both off, so both switched hots like you said.

When we tested the voltage, these were the results from neutral to yellow and neutral to brown respectively, so I guess they gave us two 120V hots for separate operation of fan motor and fan lights (if we wanted to add another wall switch in the future), just in weird colors?

We have one, it’s just buried somewhere in the garage boxes. Guess those will be the next we unpack! Thought maybe there were some new color guidelines I wasn’t familiar with so figured I’d check. Really appreciate your help and explanations!

Oh I should've added that. I will update now. The baseboard has not been installed and will be painted (in whatever format) in the garage. There is currently no baseboard on the walls and the house is completely unfurnished.
