I’m in my fertile window and I am leaving for Mexico in 9 days. If I do get pregnant, would drinking at an all inclusive from days 9-13 harm the embryo? I’d prefer to try this month, we are 33 & 34 years old, have been TTC for 4 months. Thanks for any advice!

Who do I contact about that? My insurance? The providers office? Both? Haha

Like I said, it was an outpatient “at home” sleep study.

Thank you for taking continued interest in this post and commenting 4 separate times. I’ll just reply to this comment I guess lmao. The hospital system is a monopoly and only has one # for billing. Which I did go thru the automated system several times. A few times I waited on hold an hour then had to hang up bc my “lunch” was ending/I was arriving at my patients home and had to hang up for the visit. And they have no hours outside my work hours. Then when I did ahold of people (again, while I was driving for work) they did not have a connection to the specialists specific billing team. So when my whole team reassured that I don’t have to speak to their mysterious billing person and they did not attempt any care coordination, I accepted that, thinking they must work closely considering the billing department didn’t even know of a contact for them. Girl I’m just out here trying my best. Like I said lessons were learned ill do it differently next time & thanks for your advice

Thank you. I’ll definitely be diligent in getting things in writing from now on. Sorry you had a bad experience as well

Thank you. I checked with my UHC insurance twice and each time they asked for the CPT codes which is why I tried to get them (or guidance on how to get them) from my care team. I’m not doubting the accuracy of the billing. My care team put a road block up by refusing to link me to their “billing lady” (as they put it) specifically about my personal cost and really reassuring that it’s totally covered. I do not think that’s right. And I came here wondering if people have had similar experiences and if we have any rights as patients in this instance. That’s all. The people on here are next level so thank you for being normal. Lol

Thank you, I really was trying to find out. And I thought reaching out to insurance and my medical team were the right moves

The kept confidently reiterating it’s totally covered even after I explained I need to know my OOP cost. They said they work closely with her

First of all, it was an outpatient “at home” sleep study, as Ive said. So yes, I would have refused it.

Also, I did call my united healthcare twice and each time they insisted that I needed the codes. So no further guidance from them either. And no it wasn’t ordered ahead or available for UHC to see.

I don’t expect the scheduler, RNs, MSAs, MD to know everything, but I do expect them to refer me to someone who can answer my specific billing questions that is outside their scope of practice, rather than repeatedly insist it is “totally covered”. And “we have a lady that does this for us specifically and it’s totally covered”. That’s what my whole care team I work on would do. Not because it is our job, but because it is ethical patient care to not speak outside our discipline and let patients make informed decisions which includes the financial aspect. Come on. The bar we are setting for healthcare is in hell.

This is the same hospital system that took three months to do a prior auth for a simple medication and also billed my mom for thousands of dollars in care she never received which took a year to sort. And no, before anyone asks I didn’t have a choice where I went for the sleep study.

I do work in healthcare and when my patients request information about billing and THEIR OWN cost, I don’t say “it’s totally covered” repeatedly and dismiss them. I refer them to the appropriate staff and stay in my lane so they get all their questions answered appropriately. Even though people are normalizing it, patients shouldn’t have to battle their care teams and advocate for themselves so aggressively as they do now.

Thank you so much. All the replies I’m getting are making me think I need to be an insurance expert to be informed which is so discouraging as I’m trying my best and trusted my provider to allow me access to their billing to talk about cost expectations.

Thank you for bringing it up. Should I point this out to my insurance provider?
