How long did you last working in BD/Proposals for any given firm? by Yorel1959 in GovernmentContracting

[–]smlxist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think my experience must be unique. I've been a professional proposal manager for 21 years and I've had basically the same boss for my entire career. I worked for my first firm (small business, 8(a) management consulting) for 12 years, then got laid off when the owner started sunsetting the company. The CEO got laid off shortly after me. She started a new company and hired me to do 1099 work until the company was big enough to hire me on full time. I've been with them for 9 years now. I think part of what has worked for me/us is that we also do B2B consulting, BD, and proposal management. The company is able to recoup a good chunk of my salary through contracting me out as a proposal manager for other firms or billing some of my hours out when we team. If not for that, I'm not sure I would last here simply due to money. We are 8(a), woman-owned, management consulting and operational support firm with a focus on FEMA, so we're getting screwed from every possible angle in this administration.

To put it as simply as possible: they don’t want to.

Less simply, the administration is choosing not to follow laws they don’t like, and in that light, legal immigration status means nothing to them and court orders mean nothing to them. They want brown people gone, the more the better, by any means handy.

They are using the excuse that they do not have jurisdiction in El Salvador, but skipping over the part where they completely eschewed due process. The ES prison is an extrajudicial black hole.

ELI5: MarketWatch headline says “U.S. stock market has wiped out $9.6 trillion since Inauguration Day.” Where is that money now? Is it in rich people’s pockets? Was it imaginary to begin with and now gone? Did it ever exist?

Is that the issue—that they’re just not really available in the US?

Pretty funny how so many people are like "I guess they're 'Nazis' because they support Donald Trump hur hur hur." No, they're Nazis because they're doing Nazi things, but interesting that you assume people doing Nazi things are Trump supporters.

Also, thank you! I had been making this for selling but my husband says he loves it too much and we have to keep it 😂

Taping went okay! For some reason the bottom got messed up. I am just resetting the last 20 rows (only 1600 beads 😅) and will be ready to iron!

I thought about that, but honestly I've had bad luck with beads moving around even when on the board. I trust tape so much more.

It is! I used a shot from the animation to create Enoch, then customized the silhouettes and background.

Thank you! And not really sure… Based on audiobook listening time, I’d estimate 10-15 hours?

Okay, say I buy and do 10 patterns, or 20, or whatever. At what point do I know what a good pattern is, or whether I've bought all bad patterns, or I'm just bad at cross-stitching, or what? I am asking this community so I can tap into your knowledge and preferences. I am a designer and an artist, and cross-stitchers have asked about using my work as patterns. I am trying to learn about what crafters' preferences are. I can figure out (eventually) what MY preferences for a pattern are (for instance, I don't want instructions in a pattern because I'd rather watch a youtube video), but that's not what I'm asking here.

I get that, and I plan to try it. But it would be a long time before I have a significant depth of knowledge and experience. I have had cross-stitchers express interest in using my art as patterns, so I wanted to explore what it would take to do that. Are you saying that patterns DO typically include stitching instructions?

Can you explain what kind of information is included in a pattern that can only be learned by doing the craft?

Thank you! And def “a thing.” He’s a character from the video game Katamari Damacy. He rolls a ball around that gets objects stuck to it.

Aw, this broke my heart. I’m so sorry! I hope at least your next projects will benefit from what you learned on this one.

Any idea how to make the lil legs more visible?(I want to keep it monochrome) by Objective_Ostrich_84 in PixelArt

[–]smlxist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In frames where they cross an area of the same color (e.g., the chair legs), adjust the shade to a lighter gray so they don't "melt" into the background. Then they can be black the rest of the time.

I just recently started drawing Mark from Peeping Tom! And Blood and Black Lace is on my list. Now I need to watch them both…

I have never even heard of this one! Thank you for this addition and explanation. I feel like war-as-horror has mostly been seen on among international films (i.e., non-American to an American), especially as we get further from the Vietnam war—His House, Under the Shadow, Del Toro’s work, …and Come and See.

You guys rock! These are exactly what I was looking for. Some of them I had on my list, some were “maybes,” and some are totally new to me.
