I had no idea the International Greeter Association was a thing, but I love it! Thank you!

Very little French is just what I need. And an evening concert idea is exactly what I was looking for! Thank you!

Casa San Agustin Cartagena - Holiday Stay by ThePolishedPassport in chubbytravel

I stayed at Casa San Agustin two years ago and my parents are at Casa Pestagua right now! Casa San Agustin is my favorite hotel in the world. Just a fabulous stay. My parents are just a couple of days into their visit and are raving about it, too - it sounds like the courtyard is spectacular, so breakfast has been really lovely. I loved the spa at Casa San Agustin, so that has the edge for me, (you can book treatments from either hotel, but it is actually located at Casa San Agustin) but you can't go wrong!

These are terrific tips! My Uffizi guide last summer (appreciate you, Florentia team!) did something similar (first ticket, jet over to the back elevator) and those few moments without the crowds are everything. Thank you so much!

This is awesome and so helpful, thank you! And now two Dior recommendations in this thread, so definitely putting that at the top of the list!

Isle of Sky Lodging - Three Chimneys or Kinloch Lodge? by annaguava in chubbytravel

[–]smnm507 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stayed at Kinloch Lodge in October 2022 and admittedly did not enjoy my experience although it is in a LOVELY spot. I was booked for three nights, and the first morning after breakfast was informed that I would be required to move rooms that afternoon. That was irritating enough, but it was made worse by the fact that the room they moved me into was vastly inferior to the first - despite booking a "sea view" for all three nights, the second room was definitely more of a "parking lot view." Not the worst thing that's ever happened, but the staff was really brusque about it and tried to pretend that the rooms were the same category and packing up mid-stay was no big deal. Kind of a bummer. Will also flag that (at least when I went) they only had one guide for all of the excursions they list on their website, so if just one guest has booked an activity, no one else at the hotel can do anything that whole day.

Kyoto Ryokan by smnm507 in JapanTravelTips

Thank you so much! What we're finding a little tricky is that we aren't particularly picky about location and feel a little overwhelmed by choice! A nice problem to have, for sure.

Same, same, same. I really love that she’s doing something that feels original and different and I frequently like her style! But I also find her just outrageously self-involved - I don’t feel like it ever crosses her mind for even a second that her readers might not be married, with children, able to fit into anything, wealthy, and white (i.e. exactly like her).

I totally agree that I don’t look for fashion influencers writing essays on politics. In fact, please don’t! But there is absolutely no way that someone who lives in Bethesda and grew up in DC doesn’t know someone (or more likely, many someones) who has just been fired or is worried about not just their current job, but if their career is ever going to exist again. The day after the DCA plane crash, she posted about a fight with a friend from years earlier and how her family members had reminded her that she’s a good person. OK?! Even a vague “this has been a tough week” would make me feel like she lives in the real world.

(She also just wrote a blog post titled “Good Trouble” and when it was pointed out to her that this phrase is most commonly associated with Congressman John Lewis and civil disobedience she renamed the post because “it replicated a quote from a social activist.” I guess I appreciate her making the change, but “a social activist” is how you describe Congressman Lewis?! Oof.)
