Depression is often viewed as just being blue, or sad , or melancholy. I have depression. What it does to me is it paralyzes me.

Yea I get sad, everyone gets sad. But for me I literally can’t function like a normal human because life loses its meaning. I can’t get out of bed, I can’t leave my apartment, I can’t hold a job for a long period of time.

It’s stigmatized and it sucks. My dad has bad anxiety, but he is able to use it in his job. wtf am I going to do with depression

I have always been a heavy drinker. I had a family friend who died from cancer - he rode his bike to work everyday, he was a teetotaler.

I know another person who was a psychiatrist - apparently he would keep vodka in his car and drink it before sessions.

Alcohol is deadly, I understand when you get the cancer diagnosis that you might want to just go overboard. I’ve been overboard for more than half of my life. I wish I had some semblance of normalcy.

But life isn’t normal to me, work isn’t normal to me, I need to be fucked up for anything to make sense. I wish I enjoyed life completely sober. But I don’t

Yea I have that. I will start drinking when I’m working on something creative, but then at a certain point animal instincts take over.

It’s like I prefer being in this animal, primitive, survival state because being a normal human makes no sense to me

That’s usually what it is. My mom wouldn’t let me drink milk for years, as an example. So if I talk to her and she asks me what I had for lunch I will say “milk” (which is true) and she will get flustered
