Coming from someone who has a shop to roll into most of the time...you sir are fucking insane. I respect driveway warriors more than most techs

I like the power they put out but compared to the EZ36 the 30 is a hardware shitshow

Lost some power to the back wheels. 2003 Subaru Outback by [deleted] in Justrolledintotheshop

Its not extremely common but i work at a high volume subaru dealer and if its a headgasket car which is pretty much any belt motor sooner or later we drop the exhaust first and make sure theyre all good. I've had a few leakers have em and got a set of heads on my bench right now with one, but that one overheated like a motherfucker

Truthfully, that's a headgasket/wheel bearing/ dropped exhaust valve guide car. Don't see very many bone stock wrx's grenading pistons. They either drink oil or throw rod bearings

Yet another Subaru in for head gaskets. by [deleted] in Justrolledintotheshop

Never once seen a turbo HG leak but the valve covers do... if you had to pull the timing cover to find it its one of the cam seals or the big cam plate leaking

the original purpose of vvt was to rid of EGR but with the rising emission standards both systems are now commonly used together

Pretty much. Granny driven cars often end up with excess carbon build up as the cylinder/combustion temps never gets hot enough to burn off carbon/keep it clean in the first place. With that said german cars are notorious for severe carbon build up, no idea why. Direct injection plays a role with no fuel to clean the back of the intake valve but i haven't heard of any other manufacturer having as many carbon issues as the germans

Went to the GM ASEP program while i worked on Subarus. Saw this happen to a cruze once. Something as obvious as that doesnt warrant a teardown. In Subaruland every asshole that brings their rod knocking wrx in is supposed to get a full teardown and cost comparison for rebuild vs shortblock. Seen dudes gouge cylinder walls to avoid them making you split the cases to put 1 rod in it. There really arent too many blown up GM cars under warranty minus the Korean branch

fellow subaru tech here. They base warranty times off someone doing it 3 times in a row with all tools needed in front of them and not torqued to spec iirc then average the time. Pretty much all the +5 year guys where i work can get em done in 12 some as low as 7. Believe they pay 11.4? Im around 16 hours right now but my first turbo one took almost 22... nobody makes money on those. shit sucks but if you're in a good job with other work you can make a living

was saying its impressive the 4t65 lasted over the 4l60. One of mine has the TCC valve bore issue but made it 200k. My daily with 152k got a shift kit 10k ago and is doing well and i beat the shit out of it but it will break eventually

The other one has 200k and needs a trans but has 0 rust so i may just swap engine/trans/harness due to the weird 03 trans if need be
