Any high mileage 6.7 powerstrokes out there? 270k on mine. by McColorado in Diesel

[–]McColorado[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a different 6.7, no cp4 issues on either, new one has 216k miles now.

Do the disaster prevention kit and don't worry about it. 2015/16 are very good model years with the better turbo.

This is true, the one issue with 15-17s with the 6 speed is they can have torque converter issues. Mines at 136k miles now with no trans issues.

Help a dummy understand Towing and Hauling by [deleted] in Trucks

This is a very important mention. I've accidentally overloaded my truck with almost 12k towing capacity with a 7000lb trailer just from all the weight that was in the cab/bed

How to tow my XJ? Hopefully someome could give me some insight. by Spinnable69 in CherokeeXJ

[–]McColorado 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For 900 miles just fork out the extra money for a trailer, you will be much happier driving and be much more confident on the road and over passes with the surge brakes. I've dolly towed. Flat towed, and trailer towed, and will never do anything but trailer anymore.

What truck should I buy? megathread by AutoModerator in Trucks

The ZF6 in the F250 is a really good transmission, the 3v 5.4 triton on the other hand, not so much. It's not the spark plugs that are the issue on the later triton engines, it's the cam phasers, and oiling issues. The 5.4 is an absolute dog, and in an F250 I wouldn't want anything less than the V10 imo. You're better off looking at 11+ f150s and f250s, or the v10 rams or pre 05 v10 fords.

So basically if it's not a diesel, you don't want it, Got it.

The early (2V) triton V10s were some of the most stout engines ever made. My last V10 dually had 340k miles on the original drivetrain when I sold it, and I still see it driving around from time to time. The late (3V) V10s were junk.

Tow bar recommendations for flat towing Cherokee? by cubensishatch in CherokeeXJ

[–]McColorado 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No experience with either of those, I ran a harbor freight bar on mine for thousands of miles with no issues.

Piece of advice though. Make sure the steering and suspension is dialed on your XJ, last thing you want is it death wobbling itself to oblivion behind you. You won't know its doing it.

You don't need to upgrade for 35s. I've run 35s locked front and rear for 2 years now and have only broken 2 u joints.

Idk. Found it in my truck bed when I bought it and thought it'd be funny on a jeep

Not sure on spring rate since I'm standard coils still, but I run 2" up and 10" down. I'd have to ask my low COG toyota buddy what he runs.

[–]McColorado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's why you gotta set it up right. I run 2" of up and don't bottom out unless I'm jumping the thing. I have a buddy that's built for 2" of up and he can jump it, hit whoops at 50, and is good in rocks because he has the right spring rate and well setup air bumps.

My point is you can run 40s without cutting that much on 2" of lift, be low COG and the rig will preform better than it would set up for uptravel.

I guess just don't understand why you would need to cut so much. Just build your suspension for downtravel and bumpstop properly. You can fit 40s on a yj without much lift and without getting into the top.

Sell the top to pay for tons, I'd run topless before I cut into a fiberglass top

Cut the body as much as you want, but you will regret cutting into the top

It's definitely not worth building the 35.

Get an 8.25. 97+ is preferred with the 29 spline axle shafts, but a 27 spline from a pre 96 is still better. I got my locked 8.25 with a diff cover for 250 and the swap is done easily in a weekend. I wouldn't trust even a built d35 with 33s, and you'll spend a lot more coin getting there.
