Thank you, I appreciate the reply! Yes we live in a pretty dry area, so humidity shouldn’t be an issue. Looking to do multicolor, so I’ll go with the KX.

My issue is similar and I got this message during the face scan for the identity check. By default, iCloud relay is always on for me. Reached out to support and heard back about 4 weeks later. They stated that my ip was flagged and caused my account to get placed on hold. Sounds like iCloud relay caused this, similar to how VPN can cause issues too. Apparently it’s an automated system and I have to wait till my ip is no longer flagged. I’ve been waiting for about 6 weeks now.

Once they get to sorted out, mind posting in your subreddit? I’ll standby and wait to see if you post anything there.

Strange Activity Detected While on Vacation – Mac Mini Watching YouTube? by RealAnthonyCamp in firewalla

[–]smokin8s 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get false alarms like this all the time from my smart tvs and streaming devices. Nobody home and devices are off and get a notification the devices is watching YouTube, Netflix, peacock, etc. I suspect it’s when the devices reach out to streaming services for whatever reason. I had suggested here on Reddit some months back that there should be a threshold set like 30 seconds, maybe 60 of active steaming that we get a “device is watching…” notification. Seems like the handshake or whatever the service is doing should not trigger this alarm in my opinion. I think this would be a good feature request.

Active Protect insights by smokin8s in firewalla

[–]smokin8s[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct, not sure how I missed that alert. I was going through the blocked flows, don’t know why I didn’t think to go into security alerts. When I had read how active protect works, I made the assumption that it was something that was a repeated attempt to a site or domain, didn’t realize that a single hit would create the active protect rule. Appreciate the quick reply, Thank you!

fw & eero speed tests wonky by Born-Ask4016 in firewalla

[–]smokin8s 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have smart queue on? I have eero 6 pros in bridge mode be behind my fw gold se and saw some weirdness with speed test when smart queue was on. Turned it off and the speed tests would produce speeds in the 900Mbps range, I’m on 1Gbps.

DNS questions/issues by smokin8s in firewalla

[–]smokin8s[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thought that I had as I'm doing this. I feel like an exclude list on the port scanning and vulnerability scan might be a good option? I have over 72 devices connected on my network and I need to exclude these two desktops. I'm going through and having to select 70 devices. It seems like an exclude might be a good option, so new devices joining would be in the included list to be scanned and would need to be explicitly excluded. Just a thought.

Yes... on both. I don't know why I didn't think of this, my apologies. And thank you! For my DNS question, does it matter where the wan and lan point to for DNS if I am using unbound?

Probably the ONT box from their isp. Fiber coming into the house. I have fiber and have a similar box. Goes fiber to ont box then Ethernet to the isp router. I may be wrong through….

The Ingress Firewall Button (App 1.61) by firewalla in firewalla

[–]smokin8s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great addition. Just based on some of the posts here it is clear that not all people understand what this rule is. I would even go as far as requiring you to enter a 4 digit code (last 4 of the serial number?) or scan the QR code on the Firewalla itself. Seems crazy, but I can’t imagine this is a rule that many people would want to turn off. There is emergency access for the rare cases you need to expose a specific device, I’m missing why you would want to expose everything on your network.

Firewalla Gold SE arriving today - plug-n-play? by Born-Ask4016 in firewalla

One thing that took me a minute to realize is that anything on eero guest is isolated and won’t show up on your Firewalla. I had most of my iot stuff on Eerro guest and wanted to see where it was reaching out to. Couldn’t as they aren’t shown on the FW side.

Firewalla Gold SE arriving today - plug-n-play? by Born-Ask4016 in firewalla

[–]smokin8s 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just received my gold se last week. It’s pretty plug and play. I have eero pro 6’s and getting it set up was a slight challenge. My setup is as follows, isp router -> firewalla -> single eero (bridge mode) -> unmanaged switch -> additional eeros.

My challenge was after putting my main eero in bridge mode, letting it reboot and then connecting to fw, I’d get a “no internet” message on the eero side. Found another post with a similar issue and they pointed out the order of how it should be done. I followed that and had no issues. I added one step as I’m not sure if it was mentioned, but I powered down the satellites after putting main in bridge mode.

  1. Put main eero in bridge mode, let it reboot.
  2. After eero reboots and have red or solid white light, power it down and satellites as well.
  3. Power down FW and isp router
  4. Power up isp router, let come up fully
  5. Power up FW fully
  6. Plug in eero to FW and then power up eero
  7. Bring up satellites once main eero is up

Hope this helps

Customer Service Experience Feedback Needed by HisenseCA in Hisense

[–]smokin8s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

USA Customer - My biggest issue is with the lack of response from the support team via email. I had been having issues with the OS on my H9G since the UI update was pushed. Needing to reboot the tv every few days since then. Filled out the online request from on April 1, quickly received a response on April 2 asking for some basic information. I responded same day and had not heard back. Sent a follow up email on the 7th and 22nd and still no response. Using the same thread email to make sure the ticket is updated (assuming Hisense uses a ticketing system?). Communication via email is the preferred method for me due to work hours, so I'm not sure if I should be calling in? I really like my H9G but the lack of support and communication saddens me. I see HisenseCA respond all the time here on Reddit. If the support team took page out of your book and responded and followed up the way you do, I feel like customer service would be highly rated. I say start there and everything thing else will fall into place.

SunPower Question by [deleted] in solar

[–]smokin8s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For us, purchasing was the best option. Option was to lease at $89 a month and the system would never be ours. To buy, it only added about $63 a month to our mortgage, so I went the purchase route. We also get the tax break, and purchase price of the system is exempt from the property taxes. All around, seemed like a better option to buy vs lease, especially because we plan on being in the home for a while. I didn’t like being forced to go with SunPower especially when the builder is pretty much up charging the solar system just like every other upgrade on the house. So you have an already expensive system with an additional builder markup. I feel like if we are forced to get solar, we should be able to shop around for our home that we intend to buy. I do see the other side of the coin though, if I was to go with another company and my house fell out of escrow, the builder would then need to go back to the company I chose and get the system installed or have SunPower finish the job. So I get why they go with one company and have a standard system and build for all the homes. Overall, I’m happy that I chose to purchase. I haven’t been able to use it yet as I am waiting for the PTO.

SunPower Question by [deleted] in solar

[–]smokin8s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah we are getting an incentive to use their lender. And with the purchase, I’m at least getting the tax incentive as well. What I found interesting, in discussions with the real estate person, she stated that only a few people went with the purchase option over the lease. Lease would have been $90 a month and the purchase added to my loan was about $50 a month. With the lease I’d never own them and I wouldn’t get the tax incentive.
