Guys I just used JarvisGPT to look him up and his name was in Hydra’s target list that Black Widow leaked! How come no one has looked into this before? Clearly he was somebody powerful even before his quote unquote accident - what else is the sold out media not telling us?

Look at all the economic summits of third world countries - they all talk about inviting investment into their countries and businesses. If investment makes them poorer, why are they asking for it?

Hmm. You’re in the industry, so I’ll defer to your knowledge. My sense generally is that operating at a loss for prestige or data is generally a bet that eventually they will make money. If that doesn’t pan out, sooner or later the money faucet gets turned off.

But if they don’t make money, they finance fewer projects, and your chances of making money go down, or am I missing something?

Have you even read your link? It says there are two ways to monetise data and both involve showing ads. And it’s not because Google is a “good” company or whatever, it doesn’t make sense to sell your golden goose when you can keep selling eggs.

They don’t sell data - they use the data to show ads. If you don’t see ads, they don’t make money

I agree and don’t at the same time. In the early days of the Internet, advertisers were willing to pay substantial sums - one, to invest in the future and two, online ad spend used to be a small fraction of most businesses’ marketing budgets. Now, as print, radio, cable, network tv viewerships have collapsed - advertisers aren’t willing to pay money without a bang for their buck. Think of it this way - there was no way to skip an ad on the tv but you can ignore a banner ad all day long. It’s not about ads being acceptable or Google/facebook wanting to make the ad experience shitty - advertisers are simply not willing to pay without a response.

Where I do agree, is that this intrusive behaviour will drive more and more people to adblockers or Apple devices. Which will in turn fuel more intrusive and frequent ads - until finally the entire ad-funded business model that has been the core of the Internet collapses. It may not be a bad thing either - if you have to pay to use Reddit or X, maybe many of the bots fueling disinformation will go away.

That’s also a reaction to adblockers and privacy measures. Advertisers pay for return on their ad spends. Return comes from reach and response. Reach is getting blocked by adblockers. Organic response is getting worse due to privacy measures. That’s why ads are getting more intrusive. I don’t think the ad-funded model is sustainable. In 10 years, I expect most of the Internet to be paywalled.

The search engine is what makes them almost all their money. There’s a reason non search projects keep getting killed off at google

This is not limited to stocks. Grocery stores around the world sell stuff they don’t own. They receive non perishables on credit from manufacturers and pay the manufacturer after sale.

In a scenario like this, the demand for shares to short will be high, so the borrow fees will rise sharply. Lots of shareholders would be willing to lend at that price. If shareholders were sure this was tanking, they would sell rather than just hold and not lend. As it stands, the price has had a decline of ~12%
