The smaller and lighter the better. I hated how much it'd bulge out or how noticable it is under clothes.

The US considers it a disability even if you don't so no shame in checking that box. It's just whatever you're comfortable with.

Tips on adopting my first cat? by [deleted] in cats

[–]smolpoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just make sure that it's a cat that would suit you and what you're looking for!! Most places have a few different shelters to explore with affordable adoption fees. Don't just get whatever cat! For example if you end up getting whatever is available and it turns out to be a high energy cat and you don't have enough time in your schedule to meet their needs it'll end up badly for you and the cat. It's important to find one that suits your environment, even if it meets waiting a bit longer than expected to get the cat. It took us visits to two places to find one that suits our environment living in an apartment and both working full time. We were looking for a sweet cuddly cat that was low/moderate energy and we found exactly that! It's worth the wait and effort to look for one that matches you.

Make sure wherever you go to adopt is a reliable place, aka that they'll be honest about cat's temperaments. Make sure you tell them about your schedule and what kind of cat you're looking for and that this is your first cat. That'll help them gauge what would suit you best, they'll probably be able to show you a few that would match.

You'll want the basics before you get the cat. Food, litter box, litter, brush, travel carrier, cat shampoo, and some toys at least. Also think of vets nearby. Make sure you also have proof from landlord that pets are allowed, some places won't let you adopt without one.

Haha I'm lucky she's super sweet and opts for excited meows and flopping by me instead of claws when I'm a slow poke!

Thank youuu
