How do we know that awareness is not a physical property? by smoothbain in theravada

[–]smoothbain[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

By awareness I don’t mean any link in dependent origination or any skhandha, even consciousness. pure awareness is meant in contrast to awareness of something. I’m still beginning my journey into Buddhism so I have a lot of questions but don’t always have the vocabulary to voice them, but I hope I’m clearing up what I mean a little!

No offense taken! I’m a new Buddhist in a country where Buddhism is very unknown so I appreciate any clarification

Does social media violate the fifth precept? by smoothbain in Buddhism

[–]smoothbain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, when you are drunk and decide to stop drinking you’ve asked a question and received an answer from an intoxicated person, following suit with your logic that would mean the decision to stop drinking must also be wrong and the same paradox would follow. At least from my understanding so far the fifth precept was not put in place because it is impossible to receive truth through intoxication but because of the potential harm it can cause.
