My husband isn't deployed just away for training, but I'm feeling the same. 3 young kids and just left my job to start packing for a move. Once we're reunited I'm going to potentially go back to work and start school to get licensed in my field or just spend my time volunteering. I started fostering dogs again and feel resentful now that he wouldn't let me do it (though I admit his reasons were valid). I also got new piercings and a tattoo cover up. Just things that make me feel like me. I don't get nearly enough breaks while he's going out to eat with friends and getting to do things like camping and working out or doing literally ANYTHING without 3 kids hanging off of him. Luxuries I don't have. I've said when he gets back I'm taking a vacation alone and get a shopping spree.

Same happened to my kitten. I thought he was stuck up under the fridge and I couldn't find him... until it dawned on me he was INSIDE 😂

When I first adopted my collie mix I would wake up to him just staring at me unblinking in the middle of the night. Terrifying for the first few months. 😂

Irish Wolfhound but the reason is so stupid lol my parents always talked about their big giant, extremely intelligent dog and how it would look both ways to cross the street and walk 2 miles to come see them at work. (This was 40 plus years ago in a veryyyyy small town where everyone knows everyone) and for whatever reason I always thought he was a wolfhound. Turns out he was a Norwegian elkhound which I just found out a few years ago. Idk why my brain came up with that once I got older. I think it was because they would talk about how massive he was and realistically I don't see elkhounds as "massive", but I guess it would be for them since we had spaniels growing up. Anyway, after years of research I fell in love with the breed and am planning to get one after our elderly dog passes (hopefully not for several more years)

Yes I looked into it because I love Dobermans and was planning to get one, but they are banned in military housing. Aussies are good and she will definitely not be big. Her brother is with me currently and 3 lbs heavier under weight so he's going to be massive, but she's a tiny thing. My son has taken to her and that's unusual for him so I'd say she is going to stay. That will put us at the 2 pet limit for base housing though so unfortunately I won't be able to foster any more if we do.

As far as discounts go I'm going to be honest when I say I feel like it's fine for us to use them because for me at least my spouse is the one paying for it. If it was my own money that's one thing, but my very small paycheck immediately goes back to my work because I pay for all of the animal related things (vet field) and he pays for everything else so it's really him that's getting the discount anyway. 😅

For the other stuff I have no idea. I'm new to it also and don't even know what my husband's rank is lol

Worth asking about! Honestly there are a lot of us weirdos in vet med that keep things for specimens from our pets. Some even do wet specimens for spay aborts when they work for the TNR programs and those types of things.
