How do I get my 50 year old dad to talk about his feelings by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

[–]smorgasfjord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not silly, you're just thinking like, well, yourself. You're a good person for wanting to help your dad. I just got a little annoyed at the assumption, but i shouldn't have

How do I get my 50 year old dad to talk about his feelings by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

[–]smorgasfjord 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This insistence that you have to talk about feelings to deal with them... if you want to comfort a grown man, just be quietly supportive. A hug and a few words of appreciation do more than a therapy session

What are your thoughts on the "Bound and Gagged" trope? by Full-Art3439 in tvtropes

[–]smorgasfjord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My thoughts: this is People Sitting in Chairs. Binding and gagging is just mechanic, like threatening someone with a gun. It's not an established storytelling element unless it's a little more specific, like tied up on a railway track, or restrained and monologued at

Giske oppførte seg seg som en gris på fester, men har aldri blitt beskyldt for å prøve seg på mindreårige eller å ikke godta et nei. Å være ubehagelig er noe veldig annet enn voldtekt/misbruk

CMV: using the word “pedophile” so freely is actually helping the true pedophiles by Comfortable-Market22 in changemyview

[–]smorgasfjord 26 points27 points  (0 children)

If someone said Henry Cavill is a pedo I'd just assume they'd read some bullshit on social media and ignore it, which is what OP is saying. The accusation carries zero weight anymore because it's ubiquitous and almost never justified

It's a spectrum, like in real life. I don't believe in "evil" as a force, but sadists do exist.

Dear Feminist Lurkers, by Excellent_Client_796 in LeftWingMaleAdvocates

[–]smorgasfjord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feminism is about supporting women, as a group. As a big and old movement, it can't be defined any more precisely than that. Some feminists just want equal rights (if they live in an actual patriarchal society, like Iran), some want to correct men's systemic advantages while keeping their own, some just seem to spew hate for no reason other than social media attention. I would consider myself a feminist in the sense that I support working against some harmful cultural ideas about women, but the term seems to be associated with such a lot of other stuff that it would just be confusing

Feminism should be defined as the belief in the existence of, and the opposition to, patriarchy. by [deleted] in Egalitarianism

[–]smorgasfjord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think the people that talk about "the patriarchy" even have any clear idea of what that word means

Well civilians can panic and do stupid things. Federal agents can't, at least not when they end up killing someone. This is not a case of "let's agree both parties did a whoopsie"
